PR to Romeo and Juliet

My PR to the Play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare.

The play Romeo and Juliet is quite a new experience for me, it is the first instance that i have read a play, while also being the first time that i have enjoyed something throughly while it has glaring problems. The play has many plot holes and contrivances  that i will not delve into too deeply, but i will list a few here. For example, why does juliet not leave Verona with Romeo, if Romeo means so much to her that she will kill herself over him? Does Verona really mean so much to her? what would be the issue with living in another city, even if she might not have her family there with her. Despite issues with the plot i might have such as this one, i still enjoyed the play immensely, especially for its language and writing. I never quite understood why shakespeare was so highly regarded as a writer before, but after seeing this play i now understand, his wordcraft is incredible the way that he uses metaphors and entendres to so efficiently carry so much meaning and weight in so little words. Another part of the play i enjoyed quite throughly was the setting. The city of Verona and the time period are an excellent setting for the story, as the extravagant outfits and locations, (such as the Capulet’s party), paired with often dull scenery, (such as the streets of Verona,) are in my opinion a great fit for a story which at times can be silly and non-sensical, while many beats of the story, especially the ending, are quite serious. There is one major plot point that bugs me quite a bit, and that is how Romeo and Juliet are in love and ready to fully marry and risk their life after knowing each other for less then a day. After thinking about it I don’t see a good reason that he could have wrote it so the events carried out over a longer time frame, even just with a big timeskip a year later. After Romeo sneaks into her backyard, instead of vowing marriage there they can declare their love, timeskip one year later, and this would not upset the rest of the plot. I don’t see the reason personally that they fall in love instantly, and what causes them to value each other over their own lives so quickly. I could very well be in the wrong here however, as back in their time marriage could have been a much more casual event that was not as serious as it is now, but based on my knowledge this is not the case so I still consider this a big overlook by Shakespeare. Overall this play has opened up my eyes to Shakespeares work, and I would be glad to experience another one of his works, although I do hope that in his other works he will not make the same types of oversights in his writing.
