PR to Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet triggered a bunch of emotions inside of me. Reading the text reciting the Prologue and watching the movie filled me with a sense of sadness and empathy toward the main characters Romeo and Juliet. The tragic love story of this young couple is a clear example of how everyone would do everything for love, and I couldn’t help but feel a mixture of sadness and admiration for their passionate yet fated romance. As I continued  the movie, I found myself empathizing with the characters’ struggles and I was rooting for their happiness, despite knowing the tragic outcome waiting for them. The themes of love, loyalty, and fate left me both heartbroken and captivated by the beauty of Shakespeare’s story. As I kept watching I didn’t understand why both of their families kept their ancient grudge against each other, but then I understood that it wasn’t about them, it was about who was better and about keeping the name of their families up in the high status. Then when we recited the prologue, at first I didn’t understand a thing about what the prologue said, but after reading it and several times I found out what it was, and for me it was very interesting how the prologue tells you that Romeo and Juliet will die before you even start the play! After reciting the prologue I really liked how at the beginning of the movie they used the audio of the prologue as an intro because even though it wasn’t the pay itself, it made the movie more like a play including the prologue and also Shakespeare’s language. Romeo and Juliet is a powerful reminder of the destructive force of hate and the importance of love and forgiveness in overcoming adversity. It left me with a sense of longing for a world where love wins over hate and where tragedies like theirs could be prevented

IRJE #6 It ends with us

This spring break I read the book It ends with us by Colleen Hoover, this book centers around the main character Lily, whose life hasn’t always been easy. She came a long way moving from her home town in Main where she grew up and moved to Boston, that is where she fell in love with Ryle, who has a soft spot for her, but bad things started to happen in their relationship when suddenly her first love Atlas reappears and everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

“Just because someone hurts you doesn’t mean you can simply stop loving them. It’s not a person’s actions that hurt the most. It’s the love. If there was no love attached to the action, the pain would be a little easier to bear.” pg.321

I really liked this phrase because it refers to Lily’s pain and love for Ryle because even though things didn’t worked between them she still loved him because he was a part of her life and a simple action took it all away.

PW #6 Coming Back to Guadalajara

Returning to Guadalajara, Mexico, my hometown, fills me with a sense of joy and comfort that’s hard to put into words. I’m missing the sights, sounds, and smells that make me feel at home. The colorful streets, the bustling markets, and the lively atmosphere all contribute to the unique charm of Guadalajara.

Reconnecting with loved ones is always the highlight of my return. There’s something special about sitting around the table, sharing stories and laughter with family and friends while enjoying delicious homemade meals that unite us all!

Exploring the city never gets old. Whether it’s wandering through the historic neighborhoods, admiring the beautiful architecture, or going out to get togethers, there’s always something new and exciting to experience in Guadalajara.

But beyond the tangible attractions, it’s the intangible sense of belonging that makes coming back so meaningful. The warmth and hospitality of the people here remind me that no matter where life takes me, Guadalajara will always be my home, a place where I’m welcomed with open arms and where memories are made to last a lifetime.

IRJE #5 The Auschwitz Ballerina

The Auschwitz Ballerina is a book written by Edith Eger, this book isn’t a story, this book is an experience she had on WW2 times. Edith Eger is a jew and suffer through Hittler’s atrocities and managed to survive. It all started when she was 16 years old when the nazis took her family and her to Auschwitz. her parents were sent to a gas camera and she stayed with her sister waiting for death. but little did she knew that dancing “the blue danube” for Mengele saved her life.

“In the private darkness inside me, I hear my mother’s words, as if she were here, in the inhospitable room, whispering beneath the music. <<Remember that no one can take away what you put in your mind>> Dr. Mengele, my squalid companions in confinement, the rebels who will survive and those who would soon be dead, even my dear sister disappear, and the only world that exists is in my head.” (pg.69)

this phrase is said by the main character (the author) and I find it really interesting because it explains how she felt in the certain moment she knew that one false step she could get killed, who would’ve known that dancing would be the thing that made her stay alive and get out of Auschwitz.

Brave New World and Amusing Ourselves to Death

In the exploration if utopias and dystopias we find two books that are so different but at the same time they are very similar, “Amusing Ourselves to Death” by Neil Postman and “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley are two powerful critiques of modern society. I find a connection between the two books because they both provide critiques about the dangers of technology in today’s society.

The differences they have is that Brave New World is centered in a modern full of technology dystopia where everything is given by pleasure. Technology on this book is so advanced that progress leads to a dehumanized society. Which leads to a pursuit of pleasure and gratification, facilitated by technology, that has as a result the loss of individuality and meaningful human connections. On the other hand, Amusing Ourselves to death is a critique about how television has change our society nowadays, affection our influence of visual media and our public discourse. These 2 books reflect on our present reality were the influence of technology is a challenge to our society.
