Quotation from Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

“You only get one life. It’s actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.”

— Jojo Moyes, Me Before You (P.157)

This quotation is the most important one in the novel. Will Traynor said that he has lost the ability to do many things he once loved. Despite his pain, he encouraged Louisa to cherish her life and not waste it. This quotation expresses Will’s deep concern for Lou. He hopes she can step out of her small and safe life and explore the world. Also introduces the theme of the novel: the meaning of enriching life. It prompts readers to think about courage, freedom, and making the most of our time. At the same time, it is also sad and touching because Will himself cannot live like this, but he still hopes that Lou will be happy and brave.
