PW#7

I have supported Chivas all my life, but I actually started being really interested almost two years ago. During the summer, I went to two games in their stadium. The first one was against Atletico de San Luis. I went with two of my friends and my cousin. I enjoyed the game like I had never before in a Stadium because all fans were singing and supporting the team. I lost my voice for about two days because all the screaming and yelling at the players. The game ended 3-1 for Chivas. The second game I watched in the stadium was against Tijuana. Now, I just went with my cousin. That game ended 1-0 for Chivas and was more calm than the first one. I am looking forward to go to many games during next season when I’m finally in Mexico to support my team and enjoy a lot.

PR to The Ancient Mariner and Recitation

After reading and reciting some of the lines of the ballad The Ancient Mariner I can say it was a confusing ballad to read because you had to infer a lot of sruff and have a lot of background knowledge. The good part about this ballad is that it is short and the reader doesn’t have to remember it for a long time. Moving on to the recitation, I found it really easy to memorize what we had to, but struggled a little bit on the recitation part and staying on character. Overall, in my opinion it was an average story and I will forget about it really soon.

PW #6 Chivas starting 11

Chivas is my favorite football team, and today I will talk about their starting eleven players. First of all, the goalkeeper is Raul (Tala) Rangel. He is very young, but is really good. He still makes some mistakes, but I am sure he will fix them soon. Then, the defenders, Chiquete Orozco and Pollo Briseno, are really good defenders, and they save the team from losing many times. My favorite Chivas player is Pollo Briseno because he is a natural leader and a really good defender. The right back of the team is Alan Mozo. He is in my opinion the best right back in Mexico right now because he is a fast, strong player who contributes in defense and attack. Then, the left back is Mateo Chavez. He just played his first game in first division this season, but he has won a place in the starting eleven because he is explosive and wins the ball a lot of times. He still makes mistakes, but he is 17 years old, so as I said before, he is on his way to fix them. Moving to the midfield, we have Fernando Beltran. He is a really strong midfielder and his strong points are dribling and long shooting. Next we have Erick Gutierrez. He is the best player in the team right now. He played in Netherlands in PSV. Now, he is in chivas contributting in the defense but mostly in attacking. This season, he has scored 3 goals although he is a midfielder. Moving on we have Pocho Guzman, the captain of the team. He is really good at short and long passes, and he is a great leader for the team too. Next up is the left wing of the team, Cade Cowell. It is his first season in the team, and he is already in the starting eleven because of his speed, dribbling and shooting. He is really good at creating chances to score, but has to work on his crossing. The right wing of the team is Roberto Alvarado. He is a really strong player and good at dribbling and crossing. He is really funny and really good at the sport too. Lastly, Ricardo Marin, the striker of the team. He is a really fast player who shoots really good and scores with his left leg normally to the right side of the goal. In conclusion, Chivas’ starting eleven is really good, and althouh they have to keep working on some areas, they have many chances of winning the league this season.

PR to Our Town

The play Our Town was a very interesting play because the story is very interesting and relatable to a normal individual’s life. I feel that the character that changed the most throughout the play was Emily because she stopped liking George at one point, and then realizes the importance of life.

The play directly and indirectly shows the cycle of life. First, It shows ordinary life which could be translated as growing up and living. Then, Emily and George fall in love; it represents becoming mature, and loving because they are taking the decision to marry and spend possibly their rest of their lifes together. At the end, It shows death. The end of a cycle and how the end is as important as the beggining. The play tells a story, and at the same time, it relates to most of the audience by showing the most common thing in the world: life.

This story made me feel connected to it, and making connections a lot of times with relatable things in real life.

In my book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, persistence is a really important thing in late chapters, and it explains how persistence in business and ordinary life will help you to achieve your goals. Also, that people without persistence will never win.

Those who can “take it” are bountifully rewarded for their persistence. They recieve, as a compensation, whatever goal they are pursuing. That is not all! They recieve something infinetly more important  than material compensation- the knowledge that EVERY FAILURE BRINGS WITH IT  THE SEED OF AN EQUIVALENT ADVANTAGE (Hill, 179).

I chose to share this quote because it clearly states how not giving up will take you places you would not believe. In other section of the book, the author states, “Quitters never win and Winners never quit.” which I liked a lot because is a simple phrase with a lot of meaning behind.

PW#5 Ski Trip

1 week ago, I went to ski for the first time without my family. My friends and I started to Ski in a green slope to warm up. I consistently had to wait for them because I had more experience. I watched some of my friends fall, which was really funny. Then, I convinced them to go to black slopes. We kept falling because it was very inclined. A normal slope took like 20 minutes to go down, but the harder ones took us about 30 to 40 minutes, for we kept falling.

Joseph PR

The Story of Joseph is a biblic story about the descendendance of Abraham and mainly focuses on the sons of Jacob. The story is about Joseph and his brothers who did not really like him. My opinion about Joseph is that he is a guy to talks a little more than necessary , but he is also a smart guy who takes advantage of his abilities and is in some way egocentric.

From my perspective, this was a very confusing book to read becaue of its language and how some words such as thy meant you or other things that are not commonly used in regular English. Thus throughout the story affected how I interpreted some things and made me not understand others.

Personal Response to An Enemy of the People

An enemy of the people by Henrik Ibsen is an interesting book that talks and explores moral, different social status’ points of view. My favorite part of the book is the beggining when they are having dinner because it clearly shows the variety of perspectives from the different social status, jobs, and mentalities. This play really made me feel confused because the constant dilemma in this novel is “Should we do the moral thing to do or what is good for one’s good. The story develops really well how the characters deal with this dillemma and how their mentality change throughout the story. In conclusion, it is an interesting book that showed a dillemma that is common nowdays and showed mny points of view successfully.

In the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill he shows many different habits and other methods that rich people used in order to become rich.

The engineer advised that the project had failed because the owners were not familiar with “Fault lines.” His calculations showed that the vein would be found just three feet from where the Darbys had stopped drilling! This is exactly where it was found.

This part of the book talks about discipline and persisting because when you feel like you have failed, success is right in front of you. In the story the author uses as an example, a family finds a mine and extracts many minerals from it, but nothing really valuable. Then, they decided to stop because they were not getting anything good from it. After talking to an expert, he showed them that three feet from where they had stopped drilling, a vein was found with many expensive things.

In the book The 48 laws of power, the author Robert Greene expresses many aspects and rules of how to become a powerful person. Rule number 15 is “Crush your enemy totally” and Robert Greene explains how you should not leave any opportunity for your enemey to take revenge because they can emerge against you for revenge.

All great leaders since Moses have known that a feared enemy must be crushed completely. (Sometimes they have learned this the hard way.) If one ember is left alight, nio matter how dimly it smolders, a fire will eventually break out. More is lost through stopping halfway that through total annihilation: The enemy will recover, and will seek revenge. Crush him, not only in body but in spirit.

This law made me reflect on how stopping something halfway through is more dangerous than just finishing the work because if you stop in the middle of something, it can end really bad. Is like leaving a surgery halfway with the patient still opened.

PW#4 Boarding schools

In 2021, I made the decision to go from Guadalajara, Mexico to a boarding school in Florida. I was tired of my school in mexico and wanted to try new things, so I made the admission process and was accepted in the middle of the year. In January, I arrived at  the school and was so nervous that my English was failing, so everything I knew at the moment was “hello” and that is the only thing I said my first day. The next day, I was explained with how the school worked and got a tour of the school. By that moment my  English returned to normal but not as good. I went into my first class with a nice welcoming from my classmates who some of them will become my friends. I specially liked the sports in the school and did almost all of them. Now I am in the complete opposite warm, wet climate from Florida to a really cold, windy cimate here in Victoria, but so far, I’m really liking it.

PW#3 Bruno Rodriguez

My favorite soccer game I have watched happened last year. Chivas, a team from my city ,Guadalajara, and my favorite team was playing against America, the classic enemy of Chivas. The match was a semi-final; in the Mexican league, semi finals are played in two games, and whoever has the highest score at the end of the two games goes to the final. America won the first game 1-0, so Chivas in order to pass to the final, had to win by 2 or more goals the second game. They couldn’t tie or win by one either because since America wass higher in the leaderboard than Chivas, If they tied, America would pass to the final.

The game strated and not so long from the beggining, at minute 18 Ronaldo Cisneros from Chivas scored the first goal. The first half was basically just that, but in minute 56 America would tie the score with a header from Diego Valdez. Chivas did not have many opportunities of scoring 2 goals in 35 minutes. Actually, it was almost impossible, but in minute 76 a pass from a free kick from Roberto alvarado to Alan Mozo went in the net making the score 2-1 for Chivas. There was 15 minutes left and no hopes for Chivas, so they starting slowing down and being less agressive. In a last desperate try from Chivas to achieve the impossible, Fernando Beltran crossed the ball in minute 89, and I Remember seeing that moment in slow motion because it was the last hope that Chivas had. Chiquete Orozco headered and converted one of the most celebrated goals in Mexico that gave Chivas the pass to the final. I was so excited I strated yelling and crying because we had not been in a final in about 6 years. We horribly lost the final against Tigres UANL, but the semi final is still my favorite football match of all time.

IRJE #2 Bruno Rodriguez

At the beggining of part two of the book “Someone You Know” by Catherine Fogarty, the frighting story of Wayne Ford takes place in Toronto. Wayne had always had problems with his mother, but one time, he did what nobody would even think doing it: he killed his mother. No one knew this until her dead body came out of a lake and started investigated the case. Wayne was at prison at the time because of other things he did. He didn’t know about the investigation and had to go to the trial anyways.

When they walked into the Fords’ kitchen, Ronald said he saw a lifeless form underneath a bloodied beadsheet. Wayne pulled the sheet back to reveal his mother’s body. Ronald told the jury that the woman had a grey patterened dress on, but he couldn’t see the face because there was a blue plastic bag covering her head. The sight of the body made him sick and he threw up in the kitchen sink.

Ronald was a guy that Wayne threatened to kill if he said anything about the murder, or if he didn’t help him hide the body. Since Wayne was already in prison, he confessed with no fear anymore. This story really made me think about of how some people seem to not have any guilt or feelings because they do actions that would normally make feel them guilt, sadness, fear, etc.

Personal Response to “Master and Man”

Throughout the story “Master and Man” by Leo Tolstoy,  it made me think about many things and reflect. First of all, the story talks about a relationship between a master and a worker, which made me think about how they relate and contrast in many ways. Also, the different perspective of the world that each of them has, and the different reactions for different things. The story made me reflect about how we do need people who serve and not only rich people because if there was only rich poeople in the world, who would do the works that no one else wants to? and poor people would not do those works if they didn’t have to. This thoughts made me feel intrigated by all things we don’t normally think about and how things we think should be solved are actually necessary. The story in general almost always made me feel reflective because the author’s meaning can be different from how the readers interpret it. The book emphasised a lot the thoughts of the characters, and this could be because the author wanted to compare and contrast the thoughts of both of them and let the readers see how one of them for example thinks about his family when he thinks he is going to die, and how the other one only thinks about his money and doesn’t even care about his family. At the end, when Vasili sacrifices for Nikita, the change the character shows in that moment is an example of how someone can be completely different when other people’s life is in their hands, or in life-death situations in general. By doing this, the author maybe wanted to show the evolution of Vasili’s character and how at the end of the day, we can all change. He could have meant other things that I dont understand, but I feel that the message of this story is personal and different for everybody.

PW#2 Soccer – MYP4A – Bruno Rodriguez

Last year, I started playing soccer as a hobbie with my friends every evening. I started to like the goalkeeper position, so I played it more often and got better at it. I wanted to join my school team, but they didn’t accept me because I didn’t register on time. I kept playing by myself and with my friends, watching videos, and playing with older and stronger kids. I really got into it and when I went back to Mexico, I played for a month in the second team’s academy of my citie’s best team. I kept training but never played an actual game. Currently, I’m in Canada for studying and to play soccer. I’m still trying to find a team, but I’m sure I will.

Someone You Know

This book is written by Catherine Fogarty. She is a fan of murder and mystery stories. She wrote this book because she is really interested in that kind of stories and wanted to share them to the world.

“Why do you like telling stories about murder?”

“How do you sleep at night?”

These are questions I have been asked many times when I tell people I write and host Canadian true crime podcast. And the answer is that writing about terrible crimes and cold-blooded killers does often keep me tossing and turning into the wee hours of the night (Fogarty, 1).

In this very first quote of the book, the author clarifies her rare fascination on crime and murder. Throughout the book, she tells many different stories with different contexts on crimes and misteries that occured all over Canada.

PW #1 Snowboarding

About a year ago, I went to Quebec for the first time with my mon and my brother . I was excited for the snowboarding part because I had never tried it before. The first day, I took a begginers class where they explained my brother and I the basics of snowboarding. After many falls and laughs, we finally went to the first green diamond slope. We managed to finish it in about 15 minutes but were so ttired. We went to eat at a restaurant downhill. After eating, we became crazy and went directly to a black diamond hill (the hardest one of the mountain). My brother and I did not stop slowing down all the way down, so it took us like 20 minutes to get all the way down. That travel was really fun and memorable; It was my favorite vacation by far.

We do talk about Bruno

I´m Bruno Rodriguez Gutierrez I am from Guadalajara, Mexico; it is my first year at Brookes Westshore and some things I like to do are soccer, weightlifting and basically every sport. It has been a week since I arrived to Brookes Westshore and I’m really liking it so far. I have many interests but the main thing I do is play soccer. I also like to read, but only books that catch me and are interesting.

I would describe myself as a passive reader because, as mentioned before, I only read books that keep me reading. Sometimes, I leave books without reading them completely because it starts off really good, but it decreases its quality and causes me to stop being interested. I also like to inspire on books and sometimes write my own version.

As a result, I would describe myself as a sponteanous writer because I can write a whole story starting off from only one idea.
