“Tiger Rock” is a book from the “Tales Of The Pizzaplex” series written by Scott Cawthon. The series is a collection of horror stories revolvin around the game ‘Five Nights At Freddys’ which was also made by Scott Cawthon. Within “Tiger Rock” there are 2 other stories, “The Monty Within” and “Bleeding Heart”. This quote is from “Bleeding Heart”.

it looked like a folded little star, it was a off-white and pinkish color. it was in the shape of a daisy. The next bloody shape she found on the ground was a rocket ship, then more. little cutouts of stars, a deer, a hawk, a tiger, a guitar, music notes, smiley faces, and more flowers.

I find this quote interesting because the girl who is talking was the main characters crush. She had an interest in “Skin Art” (tattoos), and so when the boy finds a robot that is made to carve designs to its masters desires, he has an idea. It really shows how sick and twisted and far people would go for love or attention, they crave it so much they think its a need and not a want. The boy orders the robot to tear off his flesh and carve objects out of it.

IRJE#4 The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner, is a book I would recommend to those who have a deep understanding on history and other aspects which lay in this book. It is very important to keep in mind that even the most simplest of sentences has very deep meaning to it. For example, a few years after losing his father, he is asked if he remembers what his father (Baba) looks like, and this is his response:

I thought of Baba’s thick neck, his black eyes, his unruly brown hair.. “I remember what he looked like.. What he smelled like too”. (p. 333, the Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini)

This is the prime example we can put in front of ourselves whilst analysing his behaviour. He sometimes, does act bad towards others, but on the inside, he is just a man broken by emotion. This is spread from a very young age, from birth, to be exact. His mom has passed away during his birth, and he always blamed himself for it because his father looked tired and depressed most of the time. He even thought that if he would win the Kite Festival with his friend, Hussan, he would finally make his father proud and forgive him for such a terrible fate which has struck him at a very young age.

This book, does however, give you lessons: Prime one being, that you shouldn’t blame yourself for everything, only when time is right. This book, is full of grief, during the Afghan war, and there, the father of his friend Hussan kills himself because of how messed up the situation got (from what I can remember they were in a house basement with no food or water, and that is why it happened), and this example leads us to another lesson, be like a balloon, when pushed underwater (the variable for bad fate), turn away and begin on a new page.

IRJE #4 Fazbear Frights 4-6

This book that I’m reading is all books 4 to 6 combined, it has 678 pages (plus a small story at the end with no page numbers). The start of the book the one I’m going to analyze is Step Closer. “A fishing  line zipped by his face again and he jerked to the left to avoid it” (p.34). Another thing like this happened again too.

“When he craned his head in another direction, he was surrounded by rows of lethal-looking knives and cleavers hanging above his head. A new wave of dizziness washed over him. He set his hand out for balance on the butcher table…Wham. A huge meat cleaver slammed down into the wood, barely missing his wrist” (pg.22)”

He was at a butchers shop to pick up meat and throughout his day, some “freak accidents have been happening”, hence the reason why he was getting dizzy, because he was remembering everything that as been happening. And seeing knives after all that must not be quite a pleasant sight. I love these quotes because they were actually foreshadowing what was to come, and even knowing what was going on throughout his day and then seeing him at a place with knives, it built up tension making me think that he was going to get slashed, or stabbed.

Personal response

In the book “An Enemy of the People” my overall feelings for the book is completely mixed between characters. My feelings towards Dr. Stockmann is that he is a good person trying to do the right thing for the town and the baths. On the contrary my respect for Peter, is not that much because he knows that the report on the baths is true, he just doesn’t want to admit it. I agree with what Thomas says about the compact majority about them being fools and uneducated. I feel very bad for Thomas because everyone was on his side, but then suddenly Aslaksen and Hovstad support Peter instead of Thomas, because Peter convinced them that the report was not true. Thomas’s whole family I had a lot of respect for, Peter has treated his brother with no respect. If that was me in all the bad situations Thomas has been, I would have probably punched him in the face. Plus not only is his brother against him, in fact the whole population is against him calling him “an enemy of the people” when all Thomas is doing is trying to speak the truth, while the normal towspeople are being lied to.

Personal Response to An Enemy of the People

An enemy of the people by Henrik Ibsen is an interesting book that talks and explores moral, different social status’ points of view. My favorite part of the book is the beggining when they are having dinner because it clearly shows the variety of perspectives from the different social status, jobs, and mentalities. This play really made me feel confused because the constant dilemma in this novel is “Should we do the moral thing to do or what is good for one’s good. The story develops really well how the characters deal with this dillemma and how their mentality change throughout the story. In conclusion, it is an interesting book that showed a dillemma that is common nowdays and showed mny points of view successfully.

Stargirl is a novella for young adults by Jerry Spinelli published in 2000. it is about a character named Stargirl Caraway, who arrives at Mica High School and brings a burst of color and sound to the otherwise quiet school. The book explores themes of individuality, conformity, popularity, and first love.

that very night, as if he were playing a scripted role, Kevin called me and said, “So who are you talking to the Ocotillo Ball?”

I dodged. “Who are you talking?”

“Don´t know,” he said.

“I don´t either.”

There was a pause on the other and end of the line. “Not Stargirl?”

“Not necessarily”

“You trying to tell me something?”

“What would I want to tell you?”

“I thought you were a two. I thought there was no question.”

“So why are you asking?” I said, and hung up.

In bed that night, I became more and more uncomfortable as the moonlight crept up my sheet. I did something I had never done before. I pulled down the shade. In my dreams the old man on the mall bench raised a wobbling head ans croaked, “How dare you forgive me.”

The text presents an atmosphere full of mystery and tension, with a conversation between the characters Kevin and the narrator. The lack of clarity in communication between the characters generates a sense of intrigue. besides, the sudden change towards the end of the text, with the reference to the narrator feeling uncomfortable in bed and having a disturbing dream, adds a little of unease . Overall, the text provokes me a feeling of confusion, unease, and mystery, leaving me curious to know more about the relationships between the characters and the meaning of the events that unfold.

IRJE #4 ”The Catcher in the Rye”

”The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger must be one of the greatest books I have ever read in my whole life. I adore every single thing a person can love about a book. I love the writing, the storytelling, and most of all I love the main character, Holden Caulfield. Holden Caulfield is not a character most writers I find would ever want to write about, especially because of the way he speaks about any topic.

I kept sitting there getting drunk and waiting for old Tina and Janine to come out and do their stuff, but they weren’t there. A flitty-looking guy with wavy hair came out and played the piano, and then this new babe, Valencia, came out and sang. (p.g.165)

As I have shown to you just now, he talks not so kindly towards women, nonetheless, that’s honesty one of the many things I love most about him. Of course in the real world outside of this wonderful novel, this is not something anyone would want to hear coming out of a person’s mouth. However, in the book world, I love to read the real and honest thoughts of the person I am reading about. I have never understood why writers write books with clear intentions to try to make it seem their character is always thinking, talking, or acting like a good perfect person. I hate that, real people aren’t always perfect. Real people make mistakes, and without those unfavorable actions, the character never seems to me as a real person.

IRJE #4 to “the Catcher of the Rye”

In the Catcher of in the Rye chapter 16 The main character, who is going to Central Park to find his sister Phoebe, whom he loves very much, says a famous remark explaining what he does to help himself feel less depressed. He follows her to the mall in the park since that’s where she usually goes when she’s in the town center.

“It made you depressed, and every once in a while, for no reason, you got goose flesh while you walked. It didn’t seem at all like Christmas was coming soon. It didn’t seem like anything was coming” (Pg 128).

At this time, Christmas was approaching, and it seemed like the core town was not prepared for Santa to arrive. It seems to me that he is persevering in this quote for his sister. To get to his sister, he has stroll through the depressing town that lacks Christmas decorations and cheer. Given that Holden is a helpless young man who only persists for his sister because she is his “Hope,” I think there is a deeper significance to all of this that goes right to the core of the character’s ideas and traits. You can tell by the way he describes how the landscape makes him feel as though he has lost hope for his current situation and is unable to discover the positive aspects of his life.

IRJE #4 – Night

Night by Elie Wiesel is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. It is the horrifying story of what one man endured, when he was but a teenager, during the Holocaust. Straight from the beginning, a mournful tone is set: one of pain, loss and death.

“Behind me, I heard the same man asking:

‘Where is God now?

And I heard a voice within me answer him:

‘Where is He? Here He is – He is hanging here on this gallows…’

That night the soup tasted of corpses”

The writing in this book is extremely potent, and it being a memoir makes it all the more powerful, and horrifying. When a book is written like this, it makes a tragedy such as the Holocaust seem much more real, as opposed to something we just read about in history books. To read a personal account of what a single person had to endure is a truly mortifying thing: but one we must do, to understand the suffering, and prevent anything such as this from occurring again.

In the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K Rowling, Harry, Hermione, and Ron were trying to figure out what was going on with the Philosopher’s stone, why it was a kind of plot against Harry, and why the scar on his head hurt. Then they were making theories and concluded that Snape was the one who was plotting against Harry.

So we were right, it is the Philosopher’s Stone, and Snape´s trying to force Quirrell to help him get it. He asked if he knew how to get past Fluffy – and he said something about Quirrell´s “hocus-pocus” – I reckon there are the other things guarding the stone apart from Fluffy, loads of enchantments, probably, and Quirrell would have done some anti-Drak Arts spell which Snape needs to break through- (p. 244).

I liked this part of the book because it is interesting because of the fact that Harry, Hermionie and Ron, drew opposite conclusions to everything that had actually happened, they said that Snape had been for the spell he had cast while Harry was playing Quidditch, but they didn’t realize that Quirrell was the one who was really hurting him and that only Snape was trying to protect him.

PR to The Enemy of the People

In this book i enjoyed reading it and i feel like it was a book with many different perspectives, since it was a play it was harder for me to read. At the beginning i found this book a little boring and it took too long to get to the interesting part for me but as we advanced i started to found the book more interesting . I had some troubles understanding some parts because it was harder for me to read since it was a play and there were many hard words or very long parts that were hard for me to understand. At the end i enjoyed the book, i found it really interesting and i had never read a play before , i didnt like most of the charachters and the way they all changed their points of view or ideas to get benfit from it , i didnt like that about most charchters but i liked some charachters like Dr.Stockman even if his opinions were hard to make true or his actions had an expensive cost he decided to tell the truth and what was bad for the town eventhough not many people would support him, he knew that and took the risk and even if he didnt get what he wanted he fough for what was right and i believe that will always be the right thing to do.

IRJE #4: Project Hail Mary

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. This book focuses on sci-fi, science, and unbelievable events. It is about a middle school teacher who is sent into outer space to discover how a new organism, Astrophage, is slowly decreasing the input of the sun. The main character, Ryland Grace, has the entire human race at stake.

“Really?” She set the tablet down. “Killing it did the trick?”

“I think so. It’s not black anymore. Light is getting through. Whatever weird effect was blocking it isn’t anymore”

“How did you do it? What killed it?”

“I penetrated the outer membrane with a nanosyringe.”

“You poked it with a stick?”

“No!” I said. “Well. Yes. But it was a scientific poke with a very scientific stick.”

“It took you three days to think of poking it with a stick.”

“You… be quiet.”

This conversation happened between the main character, Ryland Grace, and one of the main researchers of Astrophage, Stratt. It was in an industrial lab where they were talking about how Ryland managed to kill the Astrophage, as part of an experiment to see if the inner core contained water. The experiment was performed in an attempt to support Ryland’s hypothesis that not all life required water to survive. Long story short, he was wrong. When he penetrated the Astrophage, water came out. After this conversation he was shortly dismissed from the laboratory because there was “no need for his presence”.

Recently I read “If You Give Me Three Days of Light”, a touching prose written by Helen Keller. In the book, Helen shows us the beauty of life and the power of tenacity from the perspective of a blind and deaf person. Her story made me deeply understand that no matter how difficult we encounter in life, we should maintain a positive and optimistic attitude, face it bravely and persevere. This book taught me that even in difficult situations, we must have the courage to pursue the light and discover the beauty in life.

PR to “An Enemy of the people”

I think An Enemy of the people by Henrik Ibsen was a pretty good book to read. I don’t know why but I love old fashion books, it’s just something about the way they talk, and it makes me think about how things were back then. This story makes mainly makes me think about how no matter what someone goes through they usually fight for the thing they think is right. Dr. Stockmann, throughout the entire book, faced multiple road blocks, and failed multiple times, but he never stopped doing what he thought was right. Kind of near the end though he started to forget what he believed in and he started to get a little bit violent. When he was doing the violent actions near the end and not just leaving and doing what was probably the right choice he stayed for the action and the public war. at the start and middle of the book I loved Dr. Stockmann and what he fought for but near the end of the book he started making all bad decisions so my thoughts for him could go either way. Just like stated, near the end of the book he starts making bad decisions by staying in his hometown and fighting the public in a battle he can’t win. Near the end though at least from what I saw, it seemed that some people that were against him, had a change of heart and was on Dr. S’s side, like Hovestad, Aslasken, and Morten Kiil, and it surprised me to see Morten Kiil change, I kept thinking “is he faking?”. To finish this off, it really made me think about how, even if everyone is against you, you have to fight for what you believe in. And just like in previous books, and maybe in real life too, the worst people you know, and the ones you wouldn’t expect to change for the better, could change.

Personal Response of Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen.

I feel that I didn’t like most of the characters, the only one I liked was the Major. He is the only character that I don’t feel is hypocritical, he may be a bad person but he is someone who shows his intentions. Thomas Stockmann is a reckless person who doesn’t have a good objective, he is a person who doesn’t think about his own, he doesn’t think about his family. Hovstad and Aslaksen are extremely hypocritical people who only follow people and are never the leaders. I feel that I didn’t like the plot, we went from two brothers fighting over a bath and then one of them wanting to be a teacher, it’s a story because it could happen, but it is not likely to happen. The setting was in a small town in Norway before the 2000s, in some places it was at the home of the characters, like at Dr. Stockmann’s home, at his studio, and at Captain’s Horsters home. The language is a formal one from the past years that uses too many metaphors, some of them are difficult to understand and that’s why I have to read it twice. I don’t like this language because it is complicated and being a student whose my second language is English it makes it much more difficult to understand it. Some image that were imagined for me was the physique of Peter Stockmann, I imagine him as a slim and imposing man, who has a rather distinguished mustache, he is always dressed in a suit. Another one that intrigued me a lot was Thomas Stockmann’s physique as I feel that he must look like his brother but they are completely different in physique because their personalities are not similar. I also imagine how nice the town in Norway must be as they say it is beautiful, I imagine it is a little old but nice. I feel that the story can be similar to real life because the story talks about how there will always be people with much more power who will manage to manipulate and abuse their power. That there are going to be people who are just going to be followers of the wrong and corrupt one. In life, there will be people who want to improve and make this world a better place but they can’t rise above the people with power because they simply won’t succeed they would lose more than they gain by trying to do good for a cause. I feel that I am a combination of Peter and Thomas. Peter because I am a person who thinks about his family, and has priority in it, but I am not a selfish person and I question moral decisions. I am similar to Thomas in the sense that I always seek to tell the truth and be straightforward with people, sometimes I am a reckless person but I am not self-centered in the fact that I know that we are all alike.

Personal response to an enemy of the people

An Enemy of the People is a book that revolves around Dr. Thomas Stockmann. Dr. Stockmann is extremely passionate about the public baths in the town he lives in as he discovers that they are contaminated. He also expected recognition from the people about his discovery but instead everyone said he was crazy and was against his findings. Peter Stockmann, who was Dr. Stockmanns brother and also the mayor was very angry with him that he would even bring this up to the people in the town.  The mayor was concerned that if this information got out there that the it would affect the financial wellbeing of the town. Toward the end of the book, Peter and Dr. Stockmann had a meeting with people in the town about the baths where Peter forbid Dr. Stockmann to speak of the baths ever again, he was declared an enemy of the people.  The book is about standing up for what you believe in even though you may be going against a popular opinion.

An Enemy of the People: PR

As a reader, An Enemy of the People was quite an interesting book, with an intriguing storyline. The story shows how people can change simply from fear of not fitting in, as it was shown countless times between multiple characters. If the majority was leaning one direction, everyone would move that direction, regardless of their true opinion. For my remarks about Dr. Stockmann, I think that he stood out from the rest of the characters in the book. Him and Mrs. Stockmann were the only individuals in the entire town that stood by the truth. Despite the distinct possibility that he wouldn’t fit in with the rest of the town, he still spoke the truth. Even after he lost everything, including his occupation, he still didn’t budge. To me, this shows a unique level of bravery that most are too afraid to express. I think that he was quite an honest character, as he always said what he thought with no fear. When the conduits were discovered to be unsanitary, Hovstad and Aslaksen were both in Dr. Stockmann’s favour of the truth. As soon as they were faced with the chance that they could lose everything, they all of a sudden switched sides to simply please Peter Stockmann, the mayor. Even once Hovstad and Aslaksen backed away, Dr. Stockmann showed perserverance and determination to speak the truth, and do what was right for the community. Which even for Hovstad and Aslaksen, I can’t even blame them. I would never risk throwing my life away, even if it meant the truth, and this is why I found Dr. Stockmann to be such an interesting character in the book. Even after the accusations, branding, violence, and dismissal of his job, he still stood strong with the truth, and I respect that he was one of the few to stand away from the compact majority to do what was right. For the setting of the story, I found the environment described through what happened to be almost like a dictatorship. When Dr. Stockmann spoke out about the truth, he was simply put down and shunned because of Peter Stockmann’s selfishness. This showed that the community really had no freedom of speech, and Peter Stockmann just portrayed it that way, and it really reminds me of a dictatorship. It sounds scary that one could not express an opinion for the health and well-being of the community without having their life ripped into pieces, all because of financial reasons. Of course, if Peter had publicly announced that Dr. Stockmann’s observation of the filthy conduits was true, he would be under obligation to replace them immediately. If he would not replace them after the announcement, people would point fingers at the mayor. He decided the easiest way to pass on the blame was to dismiss the claim, and make Dr. Stockmann sound crazy. And it worked, everyone was too scared of speaking the truth, and Dr. Stockmann stood alone, as he was branded, which refers back to my point of a dictatorship. In conclusion, An Enemy of the People was an eventful, surprising, and well-written piece. It was very compelling to show how leadership and fear can brainwash everyone.

In the book The Science of Nutrition by Rhiannon Lambert, there was a quote that struck me deeply. It was a quote that made me look at Japan in a different light because I thought they were not in very good shape physically.

“Japan has among the highest life expectancy and lowest obesity rates globally.

Its diet generally emphasizes plant-based eating of leafy vegetables,

soybean-based foods like tofu and miso,

and grains like rice and noodles,

with animal protein from fish and pork”.

This quote goes to show how far behind Canada and the United States are in this, in North America there is a lot of obesity. Also we eat a lot of unhealthy food from fast food chains. Reading this inspires me to implement food like that in my diet to live a healthy lifestyle, while getting optimum performance on the field.

In the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill he shows many different habits and other methods that rich people used in order to become rich.

The engineer advised that the project had failed because the owners were not familiar with “Fault lines.” His calculations showed that the vein would be found just three feet from where the Darbys had stopped drilling! This is exactly where it was found.

This part of the book talks about discipline and persisting because when you feel like you have failed, success is right in front of you. In the story the author uses as an example, a family finds a mine and extracts many minerals from it, but nothing really valuable. Then, they decided to stop because they were not getting anything good from it. After talking to an expert, he showed them that three feet from where they had stopped drilling, a vein was found with many expensive things.

Enemy of the People

“Enemy of the People” is play written by Henrik Ibsen in 1882 that talks about  corruption and fight for truth. The story takes place in a small town where the protagonist, Dr.Stockmann, discovers that the Baths of the town, which are the main public attraction; are contaminated. As telling the people about it would put people in a terrible danger, he had to make an important decision; he had to chose whether or not to reach to authorities or not. The play talks about the conflict between truth an self-interest, as well as corruption and manipulation in society. though this story, Ibsen rises important questions about morality and individual responsibility in the fight for justicie.{]]

PR to “An Enemy of the People” by Henrik Ibsen (1882)

The book “An Enemy of the People” was written as a play mainly about the contaminated water in the Baths and Dr. Thomas Stockmann. I had never read a book that was written as a play before, but I enjoyed some parts of it. I found that there was a lot of information at once, and their vocabulary was different then how someone would speak now. I had to read some sections twice to fully understand what was happening but once I started to get further into the book, I started to read and a quicker pace. It wasn’t until later in the book when the enemy came into perspective, which was Dr. Stockmann. During the meeting in act IV, I found that it started getting very fast paced for me. There was a lot of different vocabulary than I was used to and a lot of information in a small amount of text. I feel like the story ended suddenly. I felt like I missed something when Dr. Stockmann announced he was going to teach Morten and Eilif himself. It didn’t seem to slow down until the last three sentences. The book for me felt different to read then I’m used to but I enjoyed reading most of it.

Enemy of the People (Thoughts)

Enemy of the People is an interesting book, but i have to say it was quite fast paced. The books i usually read are around 200-300 pages, maybe even more, and overall it was kind of boring. The story’s main problem was set around a town issue that could probably have been avoided or altered in several ways. Maybe it is because it’s simply not my type of book, but the thought of such a small political issue (in terms of others) being told as such a big disaster is downright… bad. I mean i have read two sentence horror stories that had a bigger affect and better plotline then this 82 paged book. The old way of speaking was such a hassle to understand and i had to look up the meaning of words over and over again, i also just thought it could have been better structured. I know it is an old book that was also translated from a different language, but i honestly think having a bunch of 14 year old’s read about something they genuinely have a hard time understanding is sort of ridiculous. The open ending was cool and all but the obvious disaster i noticed was when Dr. Stockmann told his kids that he would raise them to be smart and good men, then proceeded to say he would open a school is troublesome, because not only do we know most people in the town hate Dr. Stockmann now, but we also know him, his daughter and friend got fired because of his shenanigans. This raises the question: “how will they make a school if no one has a job to get money to make or even FUND that school???”. I also think the kids should NOT need to follow in Dr.Stockmanns path and do stuff for him, because if he has a problem he should solve it himself, and it’s obvious the boys are nervous about it too. Overall i think this book was unamusing and didn’t make much sense both story wise and just how it is held up. It obviously raises more questions then answers.

An Enemy of the People

This book offered fresh perspectives and new insights into the workings of small towns. I was certain that Peter Stockmann was the “enemy” of the people, and I’m sure many agree, though that was only because we knew the information; the residents of the town were not made aware that there was a real issue and were instead led to believe that this was all nonsense. Before the meeting between Dr. Stockmann and the town’s residents, they had already formed an impression of him after learning through the people’s messenger that Dr. Stockmann’s report was full of nonsense. When the conference came to a conclusion, he was seen as an “enemy of the people” since he was unable to persuade them that it was for their benefit rather than to destroy the town. The entire book is filled with chaotic situations, and with so many switches turning on and off at the same time that everything seems to be going well, it was challenging to keep track of everything, but that’s exactly what made the play entertaining—making you want to flip to the next page as soon as you finish the previous one.

A radical change – PR to An Enemy of the People

An Enemy of the People is a very interesting political piece. Throughout the story, there seems to be a preference towards sudden change within characters, as opposed to gradual, multifaceted change. What I personally found most interesting was the utterly baffling change in heart Dr. Stockmann had near the end of the story. From the beginning, the Dr. was very interested in spreading values to help the common people, or “compact majority”. After he is opposed, harassed, and threatened by the same populous he sought out to help, something snaps in his mind, and his values completely shift. “Dr. Stockmann: ‘The majority never has right on it’s side!'” pg. 59, line 5. Whether warranted or not, this change created quite a bit more intrigue and dimension in the story, as he begins despising the populous, and saying that the only people with true liberal values are those richer and more educated than the general population. After the climax of the story (in which Dr. Stockmann is proposed an enemy of the people), the aftermath leaves him even more changed. For example, he threatens Hovstad and Aslaksen after they show up in his home and tries to push them out of the window with an umbrella. However, despite all of this, his family is happy with him and begin to support him even more. I found this play to be very unconventional in a political sense, as the belief that the only people with left-wing/liberal values are those that are rich seems a bit redundant, however, the unconventional politics were probably just a product of the time it was written. Nonetheless, this was an incredibly interesting play that kept me intrigued until the very last page.

PR to “Enemy of the People”

The play An Enemy of The People by Henrik Ibsen is a unique and unconventional insight into political matters such as the rights of the compact majority. Instead of being a lighthearted play as many were at the time, it forces on Doctor Thomas Stockmann, a captivating and direct medical officer who finds the prize possession of his hometown has been contaminated by an animal tannery. Throughout reading this play, I began to question democracy and how most governments are run present day. As demonstrated myriad of times, following Doctor Stockmann’s discovery the compact majority rather than disagreeing openly with what is spread through the town, choose to oblige with whatever is agreed upon in fear of punishment. This more than ever before, is relevant to our global status in the invention of phones and other technology which has stripped mankind of our individuality. An Enemy of the People, therefore, serves as a cautionary tale that will be cherished by future generations, just as it has been by previous ones before it.

IRJE#03 – “Icebreaker” Hannah Grace

Icebreaker is a love story between our lovely university students, Anastasia Allen and Nate Hawkins, a pair figure skater and a hockey player, ironic right?  Their story takes place in California, at Maple Hills Uni.

Anastasia has a knack for planning everything out, so when the hockey players’ arena gets trashed and they have to share rinks, it heavily affects Anastasia’s skating schedule and chance to get into Team USA, her life-long dream.

With Nate’s side, he’s desperately trying to keep his team in check and on the ice as the captain. Dealing with Anastasia and her pair, who is VERY mean, is something he didn’t expect but it sparks something with him and Anastasia.

There’s only one person I haven’t faced yet and it’s the one person I’ve been dreading. He takes forever-or what feels like forever, at least-to take a seat. He’s in a Maple Hills Titans T-shirt and gray sweats, and I hate myself for being a woman swayed by a man in gray sweatpants. Sh*t. No, there will be no swaying.

“Hi,” he says cheerfully. “I’m Nathan Hawkins.”

“You’re playing it like that, are you?”

He ignores my question and quirks an eyebrow. “And you are?”

“Nathan what are you doing?” I ask, folding my arms and leaning back in my seat. He mirrors me, folding his own arms. To an outsider, we probably look like the least approachable table, which to be fair, we might be.

“We’re starting over. Everyone loves a fresh start, right? Let’s have one. You can’t stay mad forever.”

“I was planning to stay mad longer than forever, so I feel like you’re massively underestimating me.” He starts laughing and I don’t know what to do with myself, because my face is fighting to smile, too.

Pg. 65, at this point in the book, they MCs have already met and are on bad terms, the coaches arranged a team building meet so they would all get along. As this chapter is in Anastasia’s POV, we get to see her make new friends and introduced to the hockey team.
