IRJE#3

The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald. Now in chapter 9 nick is explains the events that took around the Great Gatsby’s death 2 months later.

But all this part of it seemed remote and unessential. I found myself on Gatsby’s side, and alone. as he lay in his house and didn’t move or breathe or speak, hour upon hour, it grew upon me that I was responsible, because no one else was interested-interested, I mean, with that intense personal interest to which every one has some vague right at the end. (pg. 135)

here I noticed nicks judge of character change where he’s speaking about the realization you kinda feel sorrow for his position and guilt that he feels responsible. I have finished the book now and over all id say it’s not something id recommend to people whose 1st language is not English. but very good suspense book.

IRJE#3 Stargirl

Stargirl is a novella for young adults by Jerry Spinelli published in 2000. it is about a character named Stargirl Caraway, who arrives at Mica High School and brings a burst of color and sound to the otherwise quiet school. The book explores themes of individuality, conformity, popularity, and first love.

air and knocked her bare heels together. The cheerleaders gaped from the sidelines. A few people in the stands whis-ted. The rest–they barely outnumbered the band–sat there with What is this? on their faces.

The band stopped playing and marched off the field.

She was twirling down the forty-yard line when the players returned. They did a minute of warm-up exercises. She joined in: jumping jacks, belly whomps. The teams lined up for the second half kickoff. The ball perched on the kicking tee. She was still on the field. The referee blew his whistle, pointed to her. He flapped his hand for her to go away. Instead, she dashed for the ball. She plucked it off the tee and danced with it, spinning and hugging it and hoisting it into the air. The players looked at their coaches.

The coaches looked at the officials. The officials blew their whistles and began converging on her. The sole policeman on duty headed for the field. She punted the ball over the visiting team’s bench and ran from the field and out of the stadium.                                          Everyone cheered: the spectators, the cheerleaders, the band, the players, the officials, the parents running the hot dog stand, the policeman, me. We whistled and stomped our feet on the aluminum bleachers. The cheerleaders stared up in delighted surprise. For the first time, they were hearing something come back from the stands. They did cartwheels and backflips and even a three-tier pyramid.                                                                          Old-timers-or as old as timers got in a city as young as                    Mica- said they had never heard such a racket

I choose this extract of the text because I love how she decides to deal with genre-roles. She showed everyone that even though, she’s a girl, she can play as good as any other guy, or even better.

She didn’t succumbed to the anger and yelling of the ones trying to kick her out of the spotlight. She fought demonstrating that she can make crowds go wild with her sport’s abilities and skills.

IRJE#3 The Mimic

I am reaching the end of one of my books and just like the book, in a game there is something called the mimic, and in the book, we get some background info about this… thing.

“He had just started to run. But it didn’t make any difference. The mushroom man, or whatever was wearing the mushroom costume, had faster reflexes than Glen did. Before Glen could even take a step, the mushroom man’s hand caught Glen by the back of his shirt collar.” (pg. 210)

The context of what was happening is, Dominic (main character) saw a “mushroom man” under the table and warned Glen and Glen didn’t even look back he just sprinted, and seeing how fast the things reflexes were, by catching Glen before he even took a step was impressive, like it wasn’t human…

“The mushroom man lifted Glen off the ground and held him, belly down, back up, for an instant before taking one long stride and ramming Glen headfirst into the brick wall” (pg. 210-211)

This quote stands out to me because it shows me the monsters full strength and lust for blood and seeing how it just picked Glen up and slammed with into a wall shows me how strong the thing is.

IRJE#3 The Kite Runner

Throughout the 106 pages I read so far, this book proved to be very meaningful and interesting. However, this rather short paragraph which transcribes everything that occurred in chapter 8 is rather weird. So, let me walk you through something interesting and shocking which occurs next;

On page 97, Hassan and Amir walk up and down hills making small talk, and that is when Amir promised that he would read Hassan a story he has written, however, while they were walking to where Amir wanted to read, Hassan asked about school, what Amir was learning, and his teacher. Amir started to talk about how he hated the math teacher and how she would punish talkative students by putting a metal rod between student’s fingers and squeezing them together, but after Hassan winced and said he hoped he would never experience such punishment. Amir’s counterargument was simple: Since his father was rich and well known, Amir had a good excuse to get away from such serious punishment. After this, they come up to a pomegranite tree with their names carved into it, forcing him to want to return home since he hasn’t seen Hassan in a long time. Hassan tries to weld the gap between them, but Amir refuses, and instead throws Pomegranites at his close friend. “Fight Back!” he yelled, but all Hassan did, was take a Pomegranite and smash it into his head and said:

“There! Is this what you wanted?!” (pg.98, The Kite Runner)

After this, they both dispurse and walk home.

IRJE #3 The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin (1968)

The Wizard of Earthsea is six book series centred on a boy named Ged. He is a wizard and the children in his home village began calling him Sparrowhawk because he loved to summon the birds with his early magical skills. Ged was finally ready to travel to the island of Roke, where he went to school to learn to become a better wizard. At the school, he made friends with a student called Vetch and made a competitive, pride-driven rivalry with a boy named Jasper. At a school lunch, Ged overhears Jaspers’ remarks about him, and because of their rivalry, he takes offence to Jaspers comments and in response, challenges him to a duel in sorcery.

Even foolery is dangerous in the hands of a fool. – Jasper (Chapter 3)

Jasper may not be the wisest wizard, but I think he is saying this to the importance of education as well as using power responsibly. Although it seems that his only goal is to shame Ged, his words do hold truth. I think he is saying that all foolery is dangerous, and it doesn’t matter whose hands it is in.

PW#3: Things I want to be able to do.

There are many things that I want to be able to do by the end of the year, but to keep it simple here are the 4 things I want to do by the end of the year.

  1. Learn Spanish, this one is the most important because I want to be capable of speaking 3 languages fluently. I can already speak English and French fluently, I mean speaking 3 languages would be such an advantage. It would lead to so many more job opportunities compared to others that can only speak English. I am learning on Duolingo, I am making big strides, plus it also helps to have Mexican international students to help me as well. Learning Spanish will help me so much.
  2. Being able to draw portraits, this year it has been my first time drawing people and making portraits. I have been really enjoying it and I have been developing my skills quickly. However, I know that it will take time. I’m gonna start with easier things, then I will make portraits that are a harder and full figure.
  3. Be able to do a backflip flat, I know it sounds very risky, but I think that if I can pull it off it would look very cool. This is something that I want to be able to do, mainly to impress the girls. Last year, I was able to do a backflip off a bridge and that was something I was very proud of. This time it’s gonna be much harder, to make this dream I guess I could say happen, I’ve been watching Youtube videos.
  4. Being able to jump higher, this is kind of linking to being able to do a backflip, but this can be used for a lot more. Before I tell you what I’m gonna use it for, I’m gonna tell you how I’m gonna be able to do this. The answer is plyometrics. It’s exercises that will make me jump higher. If I can jump higher it will give me a massive advantage. I play soccer and basketball, in soccer I will win more headers and it basketball it could lead to me being able to dunk.

IRJE#2

This is the scene where Jamine is chasing down the river

The figure floated above the river .”Wait.” Jasmine cried, struggling to keep up.

This paragraph uses language description and expression to describe jamine’s urgent mood.

As Jasmine stumbled along the shoreline, ghostly images began to appear

It’s a transition sentence that sets the stage for a fantastic scene.

They rose from the water and drifted down from the towering cliffs

Hundreds of ghosts, strangely calm in the crash and whirl of the river.

Personal Writing #2

Hot pot, ancient known as “antique soup”.
Named for the “goo-dong” sound made when food is thrown into boiling water, it is one of the original Chinese delicacies and is also a food suitable for all ages. Hot pot is not only a way of cooking, but also a symbol of culture.
Hot pot generally refers to a pot as an instrument, a heat source to boil the pot, water or soup to boil all kinds of food cooking methods.
It is characterized by cooking while eating, or the pot itself has a thermal insulation effect. Eat hot pot if you have gout then you can drink with low food to prevent gout recurrence. Hot pot is hot to eat, spicy salty, oil and not greasy, relief of dampness, suitable for the climate of mountains and rivers, today’s development into a mandarin duck pot, spicy, light, each takes what he needs, according to personal preferences with different soup ingredients, food, suitable for all ages, to winter.
Typical hot pot ingredients include a variety of meat, seafood, vegetables, soy products, mushrooms, egg products, staple foods, etc., which are boiled in water or the bottom of a special stock pot after boiling. Some recipes are also served with condiments.

PW#3 “Autumn”

I fall in the leaves of autumns breeze, with a hat brown and orange tints. Yellow, orange and red make the fire, as I stare into the flames with no heart of yearning. The cackle is warm yet my hands grow cold, I hope one day they can stop moving at all. I look in the mirror and at my form, taking disgust in the way things are seen. Parents’ tell me they’d love me no matter yet I cant help the fear that wells in my brain. With intestines of fabric and veins of glass, my body cant help but fall down today. I’d look across the field if I could, to see myself the way I wanted to be. I’m not dying, I do not want to, I only want to rest. I cannot get up yet, I feel I cant bear to be cold again.

I remember catching ladybugs and watching out my window as a child, I’d be warned of cougars and bears, yet I’d still go out nonetheless. On a mountain top sat our house, we would run down the steep side with snow in our hands, careful not to slip and no fear to trip over ourselves. The sunny day when my dad would take me to Costa Rica to visit my family, I sat on the airplane next to him that time, now I sit at the dining table by myself. I draw and paint, style the clothes and design my hobbies. I sip my tea, the steam is hot next to my eyes, I should blink when tears start falling uncomfortably, but I’m too focused, on the future and never the present.

I do not care what people think, yet I cannot help but cry. I’m told too sensitive and emotional, why am I so emotional? My heart is not made of stone nor flesh like most of the human kind. Very few, like me, have a heart made of leaves. My heart is made of leaves, easy to tear and too delicate to mend back together. I am too delicate so I put them first, never myself. I am too delicate so I pace in my room, thinking about decisions to make next, conversations to begin and exactly how they would play out. I’m too delicate so I don’t eat food with my family. I am too delicate so I only take photos of myself on special events and never on any other day. I’m too delicate so I care what people think. I know time and time again only I can mend my own heart that I, myself tore. I busy my schedule on purpose so I don’t need to pay attention to it, I only mend my heart a little before bed, weaving carefully through the leaves.

I spend the night weaving, and by morning I’m taken to the doctor, I am prescribed medicine for my inability to sleep. Soon it becomes a habit, soon even when I try I cant sleep, soon I need stronger doses, soon I need a strong medication. One day I force myself to not think too much about it, think too much about the medicine I take every morning and every night. I think too much about not talking during meetings, I think too much about asking questions I shouldn’t. I think too much about not going to the doctor again because what if they tell me something i don’t want to know? I think its better to not get a diagnosis, other people can guess it for you. Then one day other people guess things about you, one day those guesses are taken for granted of being true when they are not, one day people don’t need to guess anything about you because it will get to them, but that’s okay, I feel like lying all the time.

sometimes I wonder if I had been smarter, if I had been faster if things would have gone differently, have gone good. No, I have to be pretty, I have to be better, I have to be the best. But I sit here thinking I am not, to deceive myself into believing it, soon enough I stopped crying. Soon enough I got so tired from the buildup of work and the restless nights with no sleep spent trying to mend a heart. I got tired, and I ran out of string. I got tired and I stopped working to earn the money to buy that string. I got tired and now I sit at this empty dining table, chairs too high and legs pushed against the top of the wood. No lights in the house, only blue of a fish tank where such little beings of life swim. I draw, hunched over and stare at the blank piece of paper, sometimes I wonder if I’m as blank as it yet. But i don’t feel sad or upset anymore, for some reason I’m happy. I’m happy and content with this life. I’m happy and content where i am.

IRJE#3 “Enigma”

“Enigma” is a book about two people who are complete opposites to the point where they are alike, the two try to become friends yet over and over again they cannot seem to get along. The two people are so confused by the other because they don’t understand anything about their ways to the point where they keep attracting each other in a means to find out the “truth”. At some point in the end when one is beginning to understand just the outer surface of the other, death comes knocking at their door (the other in question). it shows how even if you begin to understand one layer of a person there will always be another beneath it. i forget who wrote the book i read this a long time ago and didn’t understand half of it but i like to think about this quote often.

But, in the end it could not have been enough. He found himself wondering, could they really had been friends in another universe? Would he have survived in a different world? Admittedly, the boy was an enigma, a confusing entity but so valuable, like the ancient diamonds in museums, guarded by a vault, surrounded by a web of falsehood. In this case, the boy was in no vault, there was no treasure, and no web, because he himself was the embodiment of a lie.

I think this quote is interesting because it really shows how complex human beings can be in a way, like how even people you thought you could begin to understand just have layers and layers of complexity beneath them. it also shows how despite your confusion and dislike for people they can still be valuable in your life, how you never really notice something until its really gone? “embodiment of a lie” shows how no matter what you do, in some way or form you are lying to yourself and others, how you are nothing but a lie. i also think this quote is sweet because its like missing someone who meant something to you, even if you deny it. how either way the memory stays in your mind to linger.

IRJE #3 It Ends with Us

I honestly don’t have much to say about It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover, besides the fact I can’t wait to finish it. As I am reaching the final pages of this horrible book I stop and reflect on how have I ever gotten myself into such a mess in the first place. I used to just dislike how it was written, however, now I hate every single thing about it. I hate the characters and how they act so immaturely. I hate how unrealistic it is and I hate how there is only one character I don’t despise!

I should probably say no, but he’s half responsible for the child growing inside of me. If he’s going to offer physical labor I’m going to take it, no matter how angry I still am at him.

I picked this quotation for my last writing piece, for the simple reason of being it being on the page I stopped reading last night. I can’t take reading this book anymore and I hope whoever finds it after I have donated it, doesn’t pick it up and throws it in the trash instead.

IRJE #3: Stick and Rudder

Stick and Rudder; written by Wolfgang Langewiesche. The book showcases the first attempt at the analysis of flying. The ambitious claim from the author insinuates that a thorough reading of the book is equivalent to many flying hours in the air.

“A light airplane might have to sacrifice 75 feet of altitude in exchange for new speed and lift; in a heavy bomber the same thing might take several thousand feet of altitude. In any airplane, the pilot is extremely careful not to slow the airplane up too much unless he has enough air space under him for recovery from a stall – plus a big margin of safety. If he has a lot of altitude, on the other hand he may stall the airplane for fun; and he may safely try some maneuver that might possibly result in a stall, for he can always use his altitude to purchase new speed and lift. Thus, as one writer on the art of flying puts it, “Altitude is money in the bank”.” (pg. 81)

I chose this rather lengthy quote because the writer symbolizes how altitude and speed can be referred to as money in the bank; the more money in the bank you have (altitude), the more you can purchase (speed and lift). It is a very different thinking of how basic principles of flight can be referred to, and this is why this particular quotation caught my eye. With more money in the bank, comes more opportunities to practice your turns; even power-on stalls for future reference. The point being, always try to have lots of money in the bank, if possible. It is truly a skill to be able to fully master a smooth climb, bank, or even a smooth descent. It requires a specific amount of rudder, yoke, and pitch input to the aircraft.

PW#3 Bruno Rodriguez

My favorite soccer game I have watched happened last year. Chivas, a team from my city ,Guadalajara, and my favorite team was playing against America, the classic enemy of Chivas. The match was a semi-final; in the Mexican league, semi finals are played in two games, and whoever has the highest score at the end of the two games goes to the final. America won the first game 1-0, so Chivas in order to pass to the final, had to win by 2 or more goals the second game. They couldn’t tie or win by one either because since America wass higher in the leaderboard than Chivas, If they tied, America would pass to the final.

The game strated and not so long from the beggining, at minute 18 Ronaldo Cisneros from Chivas scored the first goal. The first half was basically just that, but in minute 56 America would tie the score with a header from Diego Valdez. Chivas did not have many opportunities of scoring 2 goals in 35 minutes. Actually, it was almost impossible, but in minute 76 a pass from a free kick from Roberto alvarado to Alan Mozo went in the net making the score 2-1 for Chivas. There was 15 minutes left and no hopes for Chivas, so they starting slowing down and being less agressive. In a last desperate try from Chivas to achieve the impossible, Fernando Beltran crossed the ball in minute 89, and I Remember seeing that moment in slow motion because it was the last hope that Chivas had. Chiquete Orozco headered and converted one of the most celebrated goals in Mexico that gave Chivas the pass to the final. I was so excited I strated yelling and crying because we had not been in a final in about 6 years. We horribly lost the final against Tigres UANL, but the semi final is still my favorite football match of all time.

Picnic day #3

We went to the mountains for a picnic. Many adults went with us. In the morning, we grabbed some of the things we had prepared and set off for the mountain. The adults brought vegetables, meat, and some rice, while we children only brought some snacks and some fruits. Along the way, the ground was full of bright red flowers and some towering trees. We finally arrived at our destination, a place with lakes, streams, and flowers. The air here is also very fresh. This is the perfect place for a picnic. We had a picnic inside. After lunch, we kids were playing tag. As we were playing, we were all sweating profusely. ——My lord, everyone is talking and laughing. After some time, we started playing the vampire game again. At about three o’clock in the afternoon, we went back. In the evening, no one went out. Maybe they were too tired. They had been playing and working all day. Can you not be tired? I fell asleep deeply at home and had a sweet dream.

PW#03 – Coryxkenshin !!

Last night, while I was doing my homework, I spotted my -younger and only- brother watching someone… CORYXKENSHIN !! I got so excited that my brother was watching him that I jumped out of my seat and ran to the couch to watch with him (I’ll put the link to the video at the bottom for those who are interested). I’ve been watching Cory for almost 4 and half years now, watching his videos are always so much fun. I really enjoy his FNAF gameplay. Cory has been a YouTube since before I was born! He first joined YouTube on April 26th 2009. I think the first ever video I saw of him was a horror game one, Cory also does some cooking videos and often plays with this other creator Dashie. Right now, Cory is in Japan, so he hasn’t uploaded in awhile.

Anyways, someone please buy me Starbucks.

That’s the video me and my brother watched, we bonded a lot ? !!

PW#3 how to describe happiness

Some could describe it as a feeling
Or a person Or a friendship
Even a memory
I think is all of this together
Happiness is a feeling that’s hard to explain, It can be found in the simplest of things,
The sun shining on your face as you walk in the rain, A hug from a loved one that makes you feel cared
A smile from a stranger when you’re feeling down, A kind word from a friend when you need it most,
A laugh that comes out of nowhere, that make you feel blessed
A moment of peace in a chaotic world,
A chance to be still and listen to the birds,
A moment of joy in a sea of sorrows, that make you feel heard.
A hug from a pet when you come home, A moment of laughter with a loved one, A moment of joy when you’re all alone,
Those are the moments that make us feel loved.

IRJE#02 – “Hate to love you” By Jenn Bennet

Hate to love you, was written by Jenn Bennet. It’s two books in one; Alex, Approximately AND Starry Eyes can you believe that!?

Between the two, Alex, Approximately was my favourite.

In Alex, Approximately, the two main characters are Bailey ‘Mink’ Rydell and Porter Alexander Roth. For Starry Eyes, it’s Zorie Everhart and Lennon Mackenzie.

Both stories are amazing, this is one of my favourite parts from Alex, Approximately

As I’m licking the cinnamon sugar from my fingertips, I spy a fat orange tabby cat sunning on the sidewalk near the bench.

No. Could it be?

I glance across the promenade. Looks to be a vintage clothing store, a surf shop -Penny Boards, which may or may not be named after Porter’s stupid grandfather- a medical marijuana dispensary, and a café of some sort. The cat stretches. I pull down my shades. Our eyes meet. Am I looking at Alex’s stray cat?

“Here kitty,” I call sweetly. “Sam-I-Am? That wouldn’t be your name, would it? Sweet boy?”

His listless gaze doesn’t register my voice. For a moment, I wonder if he died, then he just rolls to one side, turning a cool shoulder to me with snotty feline aplomb.

PW#3 Spooky weekend

Last Friday I got ready for the Halloween dance, I dressed as Super Man. I made a DIY costume; I used a dark blue dress and painted the logo then stuck it to the dress, I used the Brookes P.E. t-shirt as a cape and used red fabric to make red leg warmers. In the dance, I had such a great time, I talked with a lot of new people and made good friends. I partied and danced a lot.

On Saturday, I had a sleepover with my friends and watched a horror movie; later that night we started to hear steps and we got really scared.

On Sunday, I had to sing in the schools Halloween Show. I got ready with my friends in Dalia’s room and we used a glitter spray I bought last week. We were glowing! At 6 p.m. the show started and I sang “Perfect”, “Fuentes the Ortiz”, “House of the Rising Sun” and “We didn’t start the Fire”. I laughed so much and had a great time.

On October 31st, I woke up with the song “Thriller” and danced to the rhythm, once the song finished I got on my phone to see if my friends had texted me and I realized I had put the alarm an hour earlier than I was supposed to. I woke up at 6:40 a.m., danced to “Thriller” and then gone to sleep again. I went to school dressed as Super Man and in the afternoon, I got changed into my princess-angel costume and went out trick or treating. I had so much fun but I got so cold my fingers turned purple and I couldn’t move them.

I liked this Halloween a lot because in Spain we don’t celebrate Halloween as a big party so this was a new experience and I had so much fun.

PW #3 Why I Started Playing American Football

I started playing football because it’s a sport that teaches you life lessons, even if you don’t realize it, for example, what always happens in American football is that you fight with someone, but if you fall, you always have to get up and that always happens in life, if something very strong happens, you always have to get up, no matter how strong the pain is, you always get up and Your team is always going to be your family, you have to be there through thick and thin.

And it’s also the other way around, they’re always going to be there for you, it happened to me the first time I played football, I cried, the blow was so hard that I had to cry, but sometimes or always you have to hold back your tears and give it your all, the American taught me to make friends and several life lessons that from my point of view another sport doesn’t give you, although I also like soccer.

Personal Writing #3

My favourite anime is Neon Genesis Evangelion, commonly known as EVA or NGE, is a Japanese animated television series directed by Hideaki Anno and produced by GAINAX and Ryuko Productions that premiered on TV Tokyo from October 1995 to March 1996.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a post-apocalyptic animation with a jaegelike style. The story is set in the future in Tokyo, fifteen years after a worldwide catastrophe. The story revolves around the protagonist, a teenage boy named Shinji Ikari, who is suddenly recruited by the mysterious organization NERV to pilot a massive biological weapon, EVA, in battle with a fearsome unknown enemy known as the Apostle. The story initially focuses on the battle scenes and dialogue between the characters, and as the plot develops, it gradually turns into an analysis of the inner world of the characters.

PW #3 Alice the little rat dog

I have a dog named Alice, she is the newest addition to our family as she was just brought home 3 months ago, we actually never intended to have another dog as we already had 2 but the story of how we got her was a long one!                It initially started with me asking my parents for a cat because I think I had cat fever at the time because I had watched too many cute videos of kittens online as cats became the only thing on my mind.                                                                    My mom was okay with the idea by my dad was so incredibly against the idea of having a cat inside the house, so in secret my mom and I went over to the BCSPCA (shelter for animals) and looked at some cats available.                              I fell in love with this black and white cat named Bugs when I walked into the room she instantly started coming towards me, she was such a sassy little cat!      Then my mom told me to consider the 2 dogs we have now and how they would probably not appreciate a cat in the house, although I didn’t want it to be true it was and I had to say bye-bye to Bugs.                                                                   When I got home I was quite sad when my dad called me to come to look at some dogs up for adoption, my dad is a dog person whereas I am a cat person so I was kind of opposed to the idea. I was quite surprised when he showed me a listing of bichons for sale in Winnipeg (my home city).                                            So since I knew there was no way I was going to get that cat I thought “Well I might as well go just because I get to see my long-distance friends!”                         So we bought a dog carrier and flew off to Winnipeg, as soon as I arrived I could just smell that the air was completely different from Victoria’s it just felt more heavy. I then went over to My friend Conny’s house for a sleepover and when I came back to our hotel there she was our new little rat dog, we had no idea what to call her we were so stuck on a name, and since we had no idea we all agree that for now, we would call her “crissa” which is “rat” in Russian                (as a joke of course)                                                                                                            We then flew back home, when we arrived back at the house we had realized we had not informed my grandparents about our new little rat family member. So we snuck into the house, gave her a bath, and then presented her to my grandparents, they were shocked!                                                                                    We sat down with our now 3 dogs and created a thinking circle on what to name this little rat dog, my dad wanted to name her Lisa but everyone rejected that idea so fast, so I recommended the name Alice! Everyone loved it so now we call her “Alica Crisa” which means “Alice Rat”! She is my favorite little dog ever !!!!

Master and Man: To Change, or Not to Change

This story that we read is about two characters, Vasili and Nikita, the Master and Man. Vasili is the “Master” and Nikita is the “Man”, supposedly. I think out was a very good story, it gives perspective of two different type of people. A narcissistic man who only cared about himself and an alcoholic who only cared about other people. For example how Vasili did not care or acknowledge Nikita’s feelings or thoughts, but at the same time; Vasili was willing to sacrifice his own life for him to live.

It shows that Vasili is a good person deep down or not, but he has trouble expressing it; or maybe he was just in shock in the situation. I think this story is quite realistic in most parts, especially the personalities of the characters and the setting the story was in. I think Nikita sounds like a very sweet and loyal man, even tho he’s a pushover; he has many good traits, he’s loyal, respectful and does what he’s told. Although Vasili comes off as a very negative, bossy persona, I feel he’s misunderstood.

IRJE #2

The quote I chose is from Alice Oseman’s “Radio Silence”

Radio Silence is told from the main character France’s perspective. Frances is a studying machine with one goal. Nothing will stand in her way to get what she strives to achieve, not friends, not secrets of guilt, not even the person she really is on the inside. Until she meets a boy named Aled.

“I had work to do when I got home. I almost always had work to do when I got home. I almost always did work when I got home becaue whenever I wasnt doing schoolwork I felt like I was wasting my time” (Pg 21)

I choose this quote because you can really see that although doing schoolwork is beneficial to her school life France’s doesn’t actually have any real hobbies in her real life,  she wants to go out have fun, and live life before university hits her. It’s just really sad to see her prioritize school over her whole life.

I love my phone case, like at first it was just a clear one with green edges but now it looks so cool. I added like candy wrappers flattened out on the inside and my yellow card. Like you know the yellow card from the gym thing we went on for PHE. and I also added my fortunes that the cookies gave me. Actually why are they even called cookies, it’s not the right shape or genre, like its kind of savoury. I also added little stickers that I got from trick or treating. omg and I also got vampire teeth for free, their red tho so idk how I feel about that lol. The candy wrappers I have on it is the Icebreakers one, cherry and strawberry I think and I think the other on is a gum wrapper. Y’all I ate so much candy, I can never eat candy again. I only got five different types, its all M&Ms, Maynard, coffee crisps, twin and aero, like get real guys. Also I went to this one house which was too scary, the guy was dressed as a clown and he shouted at me and I ran away. and he legit started laughing at me. Byee

The book I am currently reading is “The Psychology of Criminal behaviour and Violence” The chapter I am currently on is about Genetics and Evolution. It explains how there is a part of DNA that could influence to make it more likely for the child to be involved in criminal behaviour.

“Although he was raised by a loving family, Jeffrey Landrigan lived a life of crime, just as his biological father had. Landrigan’s case raises questions about the role of genetics in criminal and violent behaviour.

I think this case study shows that even though someone is raises in loving condition, they still could be a criminal. And that good nuture may minimize but not fully get rid of one’s true self even if it is negative.

The quote I chose comes from a book called Solitaire, this book focuses on the life of the main character Tori Spring, Tori is a Year 12 student who doesn’t really have any friends. She spends most of her time by her lonesome, reading blogs and doing worse on her homework and assignments than she should be. In this specific quote, Tori introduces her brother’s boyfriend Nicholas Nelson (Nick) to the reader.

" Nick appears. At first glance, Nicholas Nelson ,a year 12 like me, looks exactly like the kind of scary lads you'd see crammed at the back of the school bus, ready to throw sandwiches at you. But in reality, Nick is actually the human embodiment of a golden retriever puppy, as well as being Truham’s rugby captain and a genuinely lovely person. I can't remember when Nick and Charlie became Nick-and-Charlie, but Nick was stuck with Charlie through all the hardest parts of his mental illness,so, in my book, he's definitely all right." (Pg:37)

I really like this part of the book mainly because Nick is one of my favorite characters both in Solitaire and its sister series “Heartstopper”. I think this quote is Tori expressing that she cherishes and cares about Nick in her own way mainly because Nick was the only one there for her brother (Charlie) when he was in the hospital. Tori has a hard time expressing her emotions and I think her describing him as “human embodiment of a golden retriever” is her saying he is a fun and loveable person.

So the book I am currently reading is “The Psychology of Criminal behaviour and Violence” and I am on the chapter on Personality. The case I am currently on right now is about a girl who offed many men due to her lack of empathy.

“As a result of these perceptions, she lived in constant fear of being abandoned, abused, and betrayed. The coping strategy that she adopted was to detach herself from her own emotions and those of the people around her.”

The perceptions being mentioned is the lack of a relationship with her parents and the abuse she suffered from her grandparents. I believe she turned out to be a criminal because of the nature of her childhood and the trauma that also played a big part.

PW#3 Birding in Ecuador

The weekend of November 11th, me and my dad are travelling to Ecuador for 8 days. If you read my introduction and first personal writing post, then you would know we are only going for one reason…the birds. There are just over 1600 different species of birds and 42 endemics, meaning you cannot find them anywhere else in the world. We will be birdwatching on the western slope of the Andes in Papallacta and we are hoping to see lots of hummingbirds there, including the largest hummingbird in the world, Giant Hummingbird. In the lodge we are staying at, you can get up to 20 different species of hummingbird on the feeders at once! Now that would be brilliant to see. We spend some time at very high elevation, and I will even get to stand on the equator. Our last three days will be spent doing some intense birding in the region Choco Toucan, and yes that is a bird we will hopefully see there as well as some highly colourful tanagers.

It’s brutal getting there and back because of all the flight connections we have to make. Altogether, I will be in Vancouver BC, Seattle WA, Dallas TX, Miami FL, and Quito Ecuador. It will be worth it though once we are there!
