I found the movie quite interesting. There were many plot twists and different events that happened that made the movie much more interesting. For example, when Mercutio dies, this is unexpected as everyone thought he was just making a joke and acting out to make all his friends laugh, when in reality he was experiencing a lot of pain and seriously dying. This was a very shocking moment in the movie that turned around the whole plot and was the start of a chain reaction of negative events for Romeo. That made me feel sorry for Romeo as someone who he valued so much as a best friend, he lost. I found it quite understandable that he went and got revenge for his best friend like that, but at the same time I knew it would go wrong for Romeo if he did so. It made me wonder about what would happen next to Romeo and also made me wonder what would happen to his relationship with Juliet after Romeo kills her cousin. These thoughts made me feel worried, curious, and almost a little bit panicked when I thought about what would happen to Romeo when the prince would find out, as earlier in the movie the prince specifically said he would kill anyone if they started a fight again in the streets of Verona like that. I also knew that this was a romance story, but many moments and scenes felt overexaggerated. It almost felt unnecessary to show their romantic moments so often, it was like it was every 2 minutes. I understand that the movie is trying to show how strong their emotions and love are for each other, but I find that it could’ve been just as easily understood with a lot fewer of those scenes and still felt overexaggerative. I still overall give this movie a 7.5, as I found the plot, overall details, and storyline quite interesting.

Romeo and Juliet movie
Watching the movie made me reflect more than I expected. in the beginning it felt normal, but through out the movie,I started to notice deeper and powerful meanings. It wasn’t clear what to think, which made me think on my own thoughts and ideas instead.
One thing that really stood out to me was the reasoning behind small ideas they stood out a lot because they made them matter. It made me realize that in real life, I quite often don’t pay attention to the main idea like what is actually going on. I might judge some situations too quick without complexity know or understanding them. That idea gave me a quite awkward position because I had to get out of my comfort zone , but also more aware.
I also felt a feeling of empathy while watching. The video showed how people some can see the same situation in many different ways and they can have different actions or reaction to those situations .That reminded me of real life, like at school, where everyone has their own perspective and their own belief they think like more single-mindedly . It made me realize that I should try more to understand others before making accusations or assumption before knowing and understanding the situation.
What I liked most was that the video didn’t give a clear answer at the end. It left the watcher, me thinking like.a cliff hanger but more mentally , which felt more real. Life can’t isn’t always simple, they loved each other a lot and you could see that through their expressions because they would even die for each other which ended crazy and the movie showed that well.
Overall, the movie made me more aware of how I think and how I see others. It wasn’t just something to watch, it made me reflect, and that’s what made it meaningful.
PR to Romeo and Juliet
I would say that overall, the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet was a meaningful and engaging film to watch. Although the use of Elizabethan English made some parts difficult to understand at first, I gradually became more familiar with the language and was able to follow the main ideas of the story.
One of the strengths of the film is its strong emotional impact. The actors portray the characters in a way that makes their feelings believable, especially in the more serious and dramatic moments. The relationship between Romeo and Juliet feels intense and sincere, which helps the audience understand the depth of their connection.
At the same time, there are aspects of the story that feel less convincing. The speed at which Romeo and Juliet fall in love can seem unrealistic, and some scenes move at a slower pace due to long speeches. This can occasionally make it harder to stay fully focused on the film.
Overall, I think this version of Romeo and Juliet presents the original play in a clear and emotional way. Despite some challenges in understanding the language and pacing, it still provides a deeper understanding of the characters and their experiences.

Making a list of 5 things I like because I have nothing to write about and I like making lists.
- Books, specifically older classics that have delicate pages and old beautiful artworks on the covers. I love reading with my whole heart, and I’m happy that since I have started at Brookes I have been able to really regain my ability to read for longer and analyze what books are communicating in their final message.
- Hiking. I love grabbing my backpack after school or on the weekends and heading out to the mountains with my friends or my family. My favourite hikes are ones that end on a beach, or maybe through meadows.
- Cleaning. This is a bit of a weirder hobby but doing the dishes with my headphones or vacuuming my room on the weekends makes me feel like I’m resetting my spaces, which in turn makes me feel happy that those spaces get a refresh.
- Writing. I absolutely love working on word doc or in my journal and writing down stories that pop into my head. Most of the time they sit unfinished for months, but some of them I keep stapled together in my desk, which I read for boredom sometimes. recently, I have been working on my own version of The Traveling Pants (absolutely fantastic series, I highly recommend it) and another piece on a social workers stuffed animal that comes to life and does superhero stuff. (which has been a very interesting project).
- Fashion design. If you know me relatively well, you probably have noticed I like to add special touches to outfits. At school I love adding little bows, jackets or special hairstyles to express my self, which can create conversation opportunities with people I have noticed. I also enjoy sketching fashion design in my sketchbook, and I really enjoy experimenting with different fabrics at home and sewing to create different styles.
That’s it.
PR to Romeo and Juliet
Watching Romeo and Juliet (1968) gave me mixed feelings, and it was very different from what I expected. One thing that really stood out to me is the actors they used. For example, Juliet. In modern movies actors usually look older than the original age of the character. However in this version they actually look like teenagers. At first I really appreciated it because it represents the characters more realistically, highlighting their impulsive (immature) decisions, which reminded me that they are basically children.
At the same time, that realism also made parts of the movie a little bit uncomfortable to watch. Juliet is only 13 and “A fortnight and odd days” until she is 14, and seeing someone that young getting married and having a very intimate relationship felt strange. Although, I think that the discomfort helps highlight the pressure Juliet was being put through at such a young age, which was normal in that time. She is expected to marry, obey her parents, and make life changing decisions while still being a pre-teen. Instead of romanticizing everything, the film makes the audience be more aware of how tragic the story is.
I also think that the fact that the movie was made in 1968 changes the way the story is presented. The film looks more natural and less refined than in many moderner romances movies, such as Gnomeo and Juliet, which is really just a kids movie or another story like West Side Story, which is still a tiny bit tragic and keeps the destructive love theme, but in a more modern way, with simpler language and even adding music. In Romeo and Juliet (1968), their love feels dramatic and intense, but also immature. Especially Romeo, he comes across and emotional and impulsive, constantly not thinking logically and just mourning his past loves, for example, crying for Rosaline who never loved him, or killing himself because Juliet was “dead”. On the other side Juliet seemed more mature despite being younger. She appeared thoughtful and in some ways independent, especially when dealing with her family, in which the only one who with she truly has a connection is the nurse.
Finally I also noticed how the movie went from romance to discomfort in between some scenes. One scene that really stood out to me was the time when Romeo goes to Juliets balcony. They are alone together, having a romantic moment which can make you feel emotional with the script alone, nevertheless in the movie the actors look so young, reminding the audience how Romeo and Juliet are teenagers who want to get married and have kids, at the ripe age of 13 and 16. Although on the final scene when they die it really allows you to feel sadder, due to the fact that they still had a lot to live for. Instead of only focusing on romance, the movie highlights how youth, impulsiveness, and pressure from adults contribute to the ending.
PR to Romeo and Juliet
I would say that overall, Romeo and Juliet was ok. I have to admit that I used to think that Romeo and Juliet was a sappy romance movie/book. And I don’t really like those movies because I just don’t really get the appeal. So, I thought I wouldn’t really like it, and I really dreaded the first classes. However, my opinion has changed. I still don’t really like those kinds of movies, and I would not watch it again. However, it wasn’t as focused on the romance as much as I thought it was. This leads to some of my thoughts on the film;
- What is wrong with men? I remember the entire film all I could think about was about how ridiculous and stupid the men were acting. Like, they fought over every little thing. And it wasn’t even as if they were just cursing at each other or in a fist fight but, they were full on battling. Like, who ever though it was a good idea to have a fight in the middle of the street with sharp weapons? This even got 2 people killed. I will admit there were a few boys who were mature and tried to break up the situation, but most of them were either battling, or running around and cheering on the opponents.
- Romeo and Juliet need some self control. I remember it was super annoying whenever they were saying goodbye. They took forever even when one of them was in danger/trouble. I just felt it was completely unnecessary and it made me frustrated whenever they did that.
There were a few other things that I noticed while watching the film that either didn’t make sense or it just seemed stupid to me.
Overall, I would rate Romeo and Juliet a 6/10.
PR to R&J Film
Romeo and Juliet is one of my favourite movies. I had previously watched the 1996 film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, but the version we watched in class, in my opinion, is much better. Olivia Hussey, who plays Juliet, is one of my favourite actresses, so I have been meaning to watch this version for a while now. I haven’t fully read Romeo & Juliet, so it’s hard to tell if they did a good job including everything, but even if they didn’t, I would still find the movie incredible. Sometimes, I couldn’t fully understand what exactly they were saying because of the use of Elizabethan English, but I could still grasp an understanding most of the time. A few specific parts stuck out to me, and one of them is when Juliet awakens in the chamber and sees Romeo dead; her immediate thought is to join him. The specific quote “O happy dagger, / This is thy sheath.” was what made this scene one of my favourites. She references her body as the knife’s sheath (like a knife goes into a holder) and says she’s ready to die and be reunited with Romeo. She uses the word “happy” to describe the dagger and shows that death is the only way for her to be with him again. Another one of my favourite scenes is when Romeo sees Juliet at the party. I’m not sure how to feel about Romeo, since he easily switches from one woman to another, but I still find this scene really interesting and also cute. I loved watching this film, and I genuinely can see myself watching it many times again in the future. I also like that we watched the film before reading the book, because now I can picture the actors, their tones, and more. This will help me become more engaged and interested.
