I recently started reading the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, and currently I am on page 151, chapter twelve. The book tells the story of Amir, a boy that lived in Kabul, Afghanistan and his friendship with Hassan, who is the son of a servant that works for Amir’s dad. In the story it happens in a kite fighting tournament, in which people need to cut the other lines and the last kite standing wins, there are kite runners that are people that try to catch the kite that were cutted and keep them as prizes . In this tournament, Amir really wants to win because he wants his father to be proud of him and Hassan promised him that he would run for the last kite so that Amir can win it. At the end, Amir ends up winning the kite tournament, however when Hassan goes to catch the kite he is approached by Assef, who is the main bully against Hassan and Amir, and by his friends. Amir saw that but he was too scared to help Hassan and leave him there alone, after that Amir is very bad and feeling guilty but instead of doing something he starts to ignore hassam.

“I ran because I was a coward. I was afraid of Assef and what he would do to me. I was afraid of getting hurt. That’s what I told myself as I turned my back to the alley to Hassan. That’s what I made myself believe.” Pg.82

This part shows what Amir did when he saw that Hassan was getting bullied and instead of helping him, he was afraid and a coward.
