I have been reading this book named sparring partners by john grisham. In this novel, Mack Stafford, a small town lawyer from mississippi ran away with stolen money from clients and vanished a couple years earlier. After realising that he has no money left, divorced and tired of hiding, he decides to risk getting arrested and returns to mississippi. one of his old friend, Jake, gets dragged into the situation and they work together to try and get mack back to avoid the legal problems while the rest of the town are keeping a close eye.
Kathy said,”We got the impression he did something wrong around here, but he never mentioned it. I mean you gotta figure a guy like him, living in some exotic place down there, using an alias, and so on, had a pretty colourful past. But again he didn’t give us much.”
This was said by Jake’s wife, Kathy, who is partially aware of the situation and doesnt think Jake should trust Mack as she knows that he isn’t a good person and he could backstab him, the way he did to his other peers and clients.
