PW#1 Gymnastics

My gymnastics path has been one of the hardest but also most rewarding experiences of my life. I started gymnastics when I was 5, and at first it was just something fun to do after school. As I got older, the practices got harder and the expectations grew. There were so many times when I wanted to quit because it felt like too much pressure.

One of the biggest challenges I faced was learning how to deal with fear. Learning that skills weren’t just about strength, they were about trusting myself. I also learned that gymnastics wasn’t just physical but mental work. Gymnastics taught me that failing doesn’t mean I’m not good enough, it means I’m learning.

Competing was another part of my experience. At first I was terrified of judges and crowds, but eventually I realized it wasn’t about being perfect, it was about showing how much work I had put in. Even when I didn’t place as high as I hoped, I still walked away very proud, and happy I got a metal.

Gymnastics has shaped me as a person in ways I didn’t expect. It’s taught me discipline, patience, and how to push through when things get tough. Looking back, I see that gymnastics isn’t just about flips and routines, it’s about growing into a stronger, braver version of myself.

Introduction to Laila

Hello, my name is Laila. I was born at the Vic general hospital on a Saturday morning, on Halloween. I’m now 15, living my best life.

Some of my hobbies consist of going to the gym, boxing, cooking, baking, reading, and watching scary movies or cheesy Rom-coms. I also like school way more than people expect. Math and English are my favorite subjects, which is strange considering they’re complete opposites. Don’t even get me started on books. This summer, I read 32 of them. Before last year I hated reading, I had probably only read 7 books in my life, but after a year at Brooks I enjoy it so much.

I’m really into vacations and going new places, especially with my family. They’re honestly my favorite people, and I’d pick hanging out with them over almost anything. This summer me and my family went camping for the first time in around 3 years and let’s just say I am NOT a camping person. Bugs, dirt, mosquitos, and sleeping on the ground? No thanks.

I would rather go back to Persia to spend time with my family and see the Persepolis empire. Its a breathtaking thousand year old Persian empire, and being able to experience seeing it with my own eyes absolutely was amazing.

My summer wasn’t that interesting, most of the time I stayed at home and swam, or was reading. On top of that I stared reading the learners driving manual, I cant wat to drive! I did help my dad build another deck on our property, which was fun. Eventually he paid me back by building a big bookshelf for me, which I have in my room already filled up.

In the future I would like to study business, anatomy, and physiology to later hopefully become a veterinary anesthesiologist.

This school year I’m very exited to make new friends, get closer with my old friends, and learn new things while making wonderful memories.
