I have just begun reading The Escape Game by Marissa Meyer. So far in the book, on page one, I know absolutely nothing about the characters or how the author writes. However, a section of dialogue between who I assume are the main characters caught my eye.
“We need to stay focused.” Elijah opened his eyes. “Now more than ever.”
“No shit, Sherlock.”
“I’m serious, Sierra. Maybe there’s something you want to tell us? We’ve got the time.”
“Now that you mention it, I have been meaning to point out what a pretentious asshat you are.” (p. 1)
I chose this quotation because I remembered a conversation I had last week with Lyla and… someone else that I cannot recall currently. I used the word ‘asshat’ and they both looked at me and said that they had never heard it before, so I looked up the meaning from the Merriam-Webster dictionary (on my phone, obviously). I thought that was funny. I also chose this quotation because I love using the phrase ‘no shit, Sherlock’, though I hardly get the chance to use it. It also might not be the most appropriate phrase to utilize, anyway.
