Glass Sword is a book written by Victoria Aveyard. It is about a girl who lives in a world that is separated by those with red blood and those with silver blood. Those with silver blood have magical abilities whereas those with red blood do not. But in this book, the main character is a girl with red blood, named Mare. Yet she has an ability stronger than any silver. To hide this, the royal family engaged her to the prince Maven. While she was locked in the palace, her and Maven secretly joined a rebellious group made by the red bloods called the Scarlet Guard. During this time, she became close with Maven. Until one day, Maven and his mother made the eldest prince, Cal, kill his father, the king, and they locked up Mare and Cal. But they were able to escape and Mare brought Cal along to the Scarlet Guard in search of New bloods.
“Anyone can betray anyone echoes louder and louder, until it howls in my ears like the winds of a hurricane (p. 336)”
Anyone can betray anyone is a very common thing said in this book but I chose this specific one because she said this right after Maven had betrayed her, the Scarlet Guard, and killed the king. I chose this quotation because I see it a lot and each time I see it, it has become more relevant and true. But even after she says it, she continues to trust and then betrayed again which makes it a sad quotation to me.
