IRJE #2 – Sofia B

The Secret Path is a book written by Karen Swan. This story is of a woman named Tara Tremain, she is a doctor who comes from a very wealthy family. Even though she has the money, the houses, everything, she chooses to live a quiet life far away. She moves to Costa Rica, where she used to live, for a medical emergency. Being back in Costa Rica brings back memories that she tried to forget. Memories of somebody who she once loved, but hurt her. While she is in Costa Rica, she learned more about her past and the truth of what really happened. This book talks about forgiveness, trust, family, and letting go. While Tara Tremain is having to face her past, she learns more about herself and starts to grow as a person.

“She hadn’t even realized she’d been holding on so tightly – to pain, to pride, to anger – until she finally let go. And in the release, she felt something she hadn’t in years: not just peace, but possibility.” (p.324)

I chose this quotation because it shows one of the most important lessons in the book, and that is that holding onto something that is only hurting you, will just keep hurting you, and the only way to stop hurting, is to let go. Tara did not realize how much her holding on to her past was affecting her, until she let it go. When she did, she felt much better and was finally able to move on and continue her life.
