In The Royal Ranger, by John Flanagan, Will Treaty’s life changes when his wife allys dies trying to save a little girl from the fire. will is extremely depressed from the news and becomes cold and distant from teh rest of the world and when they try to send him on new missions for him to snap out of it he simply refuses which rangers are not allowed to do. typical punishment for this is banishment from the ranger corps but since will is one of the most highly respected rangers of all of aurlen they let it slide. they decide he needs an apprentice so they pick Maddie wills godfather to go with him as Maddie has been having troubles being spoiled because she is the princes of aurlen.
“at least I have Maddie now, shes the one bright spot in my life now”
I liked this quote because it shows how much willl cares for Maddie and is helping him recover. Maddie thought will hated her because of how harsh he has been but that was just the thing that rangers had to do to their aprenticeses. after Maddie hears this she starts up with new determination and will has even started to laugh since Maddie showed up.
