In Scorpia, by Anthony Horowitz, Alex Rider has to make some of the darkest choices of his life, questioning everything he thought he knew about loyalty, trust, and his own identity. After being what he thought as of being manipulated by MI6 for so long, Alex begins to wonder if he has been fighting on the wrong side, and whether the truth about his father lies with the very people he has always called enemies, a group of terrorst and assassins called scorpio. One moment that stands out comes when Alex realizes just how much has been taken from him:
“They had lied to him, used him, and stolen his childhood. And now they expected him to keep working for them, as if none of it mattered.” (p. XX)
This line shows the big part of Alex’s struggle he is a teenager who has been forced to grow up to fast and not only doing normal things an adult would do but doing deadly things that most. wouldn’t and still performing them better then everyone. he sacrificing a normal life for dangerous missions he never asked for. I found this moment powerful because it shows that Alex is not just a spy, hes also a boy who has been betrayed and used for his skills and now is fighting to understand who he really is. What I liked about scorpia is how Horowitz combines thrilling action with deeper questions about loyalty and identity, making the story exciting it it also makes you think. for me this book inst necessarily my favourite book ive read from the series but it is foreshore the most intense and deep one.
