The company behind it says it’s supposed to be like having a “friend” who is always there for you, replacing real human connection. The ad for it was honestly a bit strange, people were sitting alone smiling down at the pendant, or talking to it as if it were an actual person.

I think the whole concept is interesting, but also dystopian. I use AI often, and I will say it is super useful. Although, real friendship affects us on a psychological level; talking to a friend, a significant other, or someone you care about releases dopamine in our brains. That emotional reaction derives from real human connection, trust, and empathy which can’t be mimicked by a pendant.

To me, the necklace is a good reminder that even though technology is advancing, it can’t replace real human connection (at least not yet!). AI can help us, but it can’t feel for us, and that’s what makes human connection so important.

A few days ago, I was on TikTok and kept seeing videos about this Friend AI Necklace.
