I related the movie to the book All Quiet On The Western Front in visual ways, because the voices in the movie would say something similar to what it would say in the book, but the movie showed visuals, which were sad to watch. In one part, I remember in the book, it talked about the horses and how they were badly treated, for example in chapter 4, Detering says ” Ill tell you this: it’s the vilest baseness to use horses in the war.” In the movie it showed the horse being mistreated and tired, it also showed explosions which involved horses, you could hear their cries, and some soldiers just shot them to end their pain and suffering. Another thing that I related to in the movie is that you can see how young they are. In the movie, they show mostly young soldiers, and it made me think about how that’s someone’s kid. They grew up fine and then all of a sudden they are fighting and dying for their country. In the poems, specifically My Boy Jack, is about a parent who is asking about their son. The first line in the poem says ” Have you news of my boy Jack?” It shows how the parents worry about their sons. It really makes me think. Overall, the movie They Shall Not Grow Old had the biggest impression on me. After the movie comes the poems, then the book, then the prose readings.

For me, the movie They Shall Not Grow Old made the biggest impression on me.
