It feels like the soldiers are stuck in a never-ending loop, walking past other men, weapons, and broken defenses, while trying to stay alive one more day.

When it says that the parapet is “low or broken or thin” and that messages are passed back “meaninglessly when they have passed the danger point,” it shows how routine and empty everything has become. The men don’t even react emotionally anymore, they just follow orders because that’s all they can do, It’s like their humanity is fading in the middle of so much chaos.

I think this passage is important because it exposes the real side of war not the brave or patriotic version people usually imagine, but the physical and mental destruction it brings, it reminds us that soldiers aren’t just characters in history books, they were real people who suffered, got scared, and lost hope, reading this makes me think about how war turns human lives into something mechanical and meaningless, and how peace is something we should never take for granted.

The text that gave me the biggest impression of how WW1 was, is the World War 1 Reading: Prose, Part 1. “We reach the inhabited part of the line, and the obstacles become more frequent, […]

[19

post-16849","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-final-reflections
["GET
