{"id":16726,"date":"2025-10-20T19:59:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T02:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ericmacknight.com\/english10\/?p=16726"},"modified":"2025-10-20T19:59:00","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T02:59:00","slug":"irje2-bernardo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ericmacknight.com\/english10\/irje2-bernardo\/","title":{"rendered":"IRJE#2 Bernardo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three Cups of Tea<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I recently started the book <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three Cups of Tea<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, and right now I&#8217;m on page 136.The book tells a story about Greg Mortenson, a climber that failed to climb the K2 mountain that is considered the hardest mountain to climb. When he failed to climb the mountain he ended up in the city of Korphe in Pakistan and there he saw the conditions of that city, that people did not have schools and all, and he immediately wanted to help. So after he went back home he created a raising fund so he can help that small town,but no one wanted to donate money to it, until Jean Hoerni saw this fund and he donated 12,000 dollars. With that amount of money it was enough to open a school there, however he couldn&#8217;t build the school because it needed a bridge so the materials could go there, so Jean Hoerni donated more money and it was enough to build both the bridge and the schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;I plan to build a five-room school to educate 100 students up to the fifth grade,&#8221; Mortenson typed. &#8220;While I was in Pakistan climbing K2, the world&#8217;s second-highest peak (I didn&#8217;t quite make it to the top) I consulted with local experts.
