Alex Rider / Independent Reading

The book Alex Rider Stormbreaker written by Anthony Horowitz is about an orphaned boy, who became after the death of his uncle Ian Rider a secret agent at MI6. In chapter 5 Alex Rider is on a training mission. His task is to luug a twenty-two pound backpack to the final redez-vous point.
He was close to exhaustion, he knew, almost too tired to know how much pain he was in. (p.57)
Swallowing down the taste of defeat, Alex folded the map and forced himself on. (p.57)
This quote is pretty interesting, because I know this situation very well from swimming competitions.  In some competitions over long distances i have to force myself to continue swimming even though i’m already quite exhausted.  When i read this quote i could identify myself directly with Alex.

All Quiet on the Western Front / Independent reading

The book All Quiet on the Western Front is a novel by Erich Maria Remarque that describes the horrors of the First World War from the perspective of a young soldier. The story is told in the first person by Paul Baumer, a young man who, encouraged by his teacher, enlisted in the German army as one of a group of seven boyhood friends. Paul went home for holidays and met his classmate Mittelstaedt, now a training officer, that his old schoolmaster Kantorek has been conscripted into the war.

Mittelstaedt stops in front of him: “Territorial Kantorek, do you call those buttons polished? You seem as though you can never learn. Inadequate, Kantorek, quite inadequate–”
It makes me bubble with glee. In school Kantorek used to chasten Mittelstaedt with exactly the same expression–“Inadequate, Mittelstaedt, quite inadequate.”
Mittelstaedt continues to upbraid him: “Look at Boettcher now, there’s a model for you to learn from.” (p.175-176)

Mittelstadt arranged to be placed in charge of Kantorek’s company. Mittlestaedt has taken every chance to humiliate him, miming Kantorek’s admonitions as a schoolmaster. This shows that people, as soon as they have the opportunity to exercise power, also use it to take revenge for earlier situations. That’s why you should always treat other people correctly and with dignity so that you don’t get into such a situation of revenge later.

Munich / Personal Writing

Munich is the capital of Bavaria and the third largest city of Germany. For the tourists Munich has many sights to offer. It is not for nothing that Munich is the most visited place in Germany after Berlin. Many come to Munich for beer, the Oktoberfest, the Hofbräuhaus or the Weißwürste. Others come because of the world-famous museums such as the Deutsche Museum, the three Pinakotheken, the Haus der Kunst or the Glyptothek. For example, the old town, the Frauenkirche, the town hall and the Residence are all a delight for architecture lovers. Sports fans can take a look at the Olympic Park or the famous Allianz Arena football stadium. Others love the almost Mediterranean flair of Munich or the scene of Schwabing with the famous Leopoldstraße and the largest university in Germany. Munich is unique. It is a young city – less than 900 years old. The city has a high quality of life. The city is said to have low unemployment and a lot of wealth. Munich has many large green spaces (above all the English Garden Park) and allegedly fewer social problems and poverty than Berlin, the Ruhr area or Frankfurt, for example. Also the location of the city, especially the nearby Alps, the many lakes and the short way to Italy, is very attractive.

Top places to visit:

1st Frauenkirche

2nd Marienplatz

3th Nymphenburg Castle

4th German Museum

5th English Garden

6th Munich Residence

7th Isar

8th Karlsplatz Stachus

9th Olympic Park

10th Viktualienmarkt

A very good website I found is this:

On the website are the best tourist attractions in Munich you can visit.

Independent Reading Alex Rider Stormbreaker

The book Alex Rider Stormbreaker written by Anthony Horowitz is about an orphaned boy, who became after the death of his uncle Ian Rider a secret agent at MI6. In chapter 4 Alex learns that Mr Sayle of Syle Enterprises wants to give computers to every school in the UK. Everybody is enthusiastic but especially the government.

Of course the whole government was excited. p.47

As doubts arrise about the integrity and the intention of the donation no one is interested in it. Exactly the opposite happens.

The government’s too keen to get their hands on these computers to listen to us. p.48

I particulary like this passage, because it shows that money rules the world. Hardly there are free gifts and already everybody closes eyes and ears before the origin of the money.

Adidas, a german company

I am an enthusiastic athlete. No matter if I play soccer or basketball or volleyball. I always wear sportswear of Adidas. Adidas was founded in 1949 by Adi Dassler.  At the beginning they produced only shoes with the three stripes. The success of the company was accellerated by the miracle in Bern. In the 1954 world cup final the german national soccer team faced the hungarians and won so much more than just a trophy. This made Adidas and it’s founder a household name on soccer pitches everywhere. 1967 the company produced the Franz Beckenbauer’s tracksuit which was the first ever of appearal from Adidas. Since 1970 Adidas has produced the official matchball to every fifa worldcup that followed. In 1978 the three stripes company has become a true multy sport specialist. Adi Dassler died on Sep 6 in 1978 shortly before his 78 birthday. After the death Adi’s wife and his son Horst became the company manager. This area stopped in 1989 because Horst Dassler died in 1987, 2 years after his mother passed away. In 1989 Adidas became a stock cooperation. After a record loss in 1992 the company got a new CEO Robert Luis Dryfus. He changed the giant from a sales to a marketing driven company and steered Adidas back on the growth path. Now the time of new innovations started for example with the brand predator soccer boot. In 1997 Adidas made the acquisition of the salomon group.  As the new century started there were made new divisions and the success started over the following years.

IRJE : Alex Rider Stormbreaker (1 oct)

The book Alex Rider Stormbreaker, written by Anthony Horowitz, introduce the world to Alex, a teenager. After the death of his uncle, Alex begins to discover his family’s past. Alex was told that his uncle died in a car accident. There were a lot of strange people and strange situations at Ian´s funeral. There were a lot of questions churning through his mind.

The pistol at the funeral. The way blunt looked at him. The van with Stryker and Son written on the side. The empty office. And the biggest mystery of all, the one detail that refused to go away. The seat belt. Ian Rider hadn’t been wearing a seat belt. But of course he had.  p.14

Alex thought about the seat belt thing and he couldn’t believe it. He decided to find out the truth. This section of the book shows that Alex Rider learns a lot of about to be an adult. He does’t believe all statements of the adults. He thinks critically and he wants to find out the truth. I think this is the right way to become an adult.

AdrenaLine / A weekend visit / Personal Writing

Last Week on Sunday we made an excursion to AndrenaLine zipline. We took the bus for a short ride to . There we got the equipment and the intructions for the zipline. Then we were devided in two groups per 10 persons and every group got 2 staff member. After the first short zipline for beginners we were driven with a 4×4 unimog of Mercedes to the mountain hill. This was pretty funny, because it was the first time for me to drive with an unimog. And then after a short 10 minutes drive to the mountain hill the fun part started.  The ziplining took 2 hours and we had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. It´s worth for a visit! The staff was verry friendly and they showed us lots of tricks that we could do at the ziplines. I didn`t do any tricks but some of the other students did them and I think they had lots of fun. At the last zipline  photos of us were shot and this was also very funny because some of the students were photographed from the back. At the end I think It`s pretty good for a visit and I can recommend it for everyone, because you musn´t have experience to do that. The staff looks always after us. In a nutshell this was a great trip and it was a perfect organisation of the school. Thanks for the great trip!

In Alex Rider Stormbraker, by Anthony Horowitz, it is about Alex Rider an orphaned boy  living with his uncle Ian Rider and his educator Jack in London. At the evening a police car arrived at his house and Alex was told that his uncle died in a car accident. On the day of Ians funderal, Alex met Mr Blunt the boss of his uncle that he never met before, because Ian never said something about his work. Alex Rider is verry surprised about his statements:

“You must be Alex.”

“My name ist Alan Blunt.”

“Yout uncle often spoke about you”

“That’s funny”

“He never mentioned you”

“We will miss him”

“He was a good man”

“What was he good at?”

“He never talked about his work”

“Your uncle was a overseas finance manager”

“He was responsible for our foreign branches” (10)

Quotes from the page number 10 shows that Alex didn’t really know his uncle Ian. He has to realize that there are secrets about his uncle Ian that make him insecure.
