PR Brave new world.

Brave new world by alders Huxley. This book was a lot better to read that all quiet in the western front. The first chapters I didn’t understand that much about it, but as I read through I enjoyed the book. What I understood about thins book is that they tried to make a perfect society in which everyone is happy. They use science to create people and to do whatever they want but they take away freedom, so the hole book stated a question . Is it better to be happy or to be free. Everyone has a role in this futurist society. Mustafa is a top controller of the world and he told them how it was before when women gave birth. everyone was very disgusted by this idea. The major characters in this book is Lenina and Bernard. Bernard is a psychologist and even though he is high in society he feels like an outsider because he doesn’t t fit in and he has a different perspective of society, Bernard likes Lenina but it bothers to him that she is like everyone else. Soma is a very important drug in this society because it makes you fell happy and to forget their problems. I think in our world we all have our soma but in this world is alcohol or drugs.

In this society sex is also very common, everyone has sex with everyone and that seems normal to them. Having a close relationship isn’t normal and that is what Bernard wants with Lenina. You can learn about the characters by how they act, what they say and how they speak. He uses a lot of irony through the book. His main points is the big government, labor movements, meterialism etc. In brave new world there are different society: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilons. I think with this he wants to show that in our world there are also different societies that differences us. In conclusion I enjoyed this book because I think it shows problems that the have in our world but we don’t see them or put more attention and responding the question of being happy or being free I prefer being free because when you live happy but you don’t have freedom you don’t have to opportunity to make your choices and when you go out of this happiness you realize that you have lived a fraud and yes everyone is happy there is no deaths it seems perfect so what is it dystopia or utopia.

pw#6 Why I think mr Macknight should be president.

Having known Mr Macknight for 7 months of my life, I have to recommend him for the position of president. He is a very smart and good person, and I think it would be great for him to be president because he would make the whole country very intellectual and he would definitely cite Shakespeare in every sentence he uses so we would have a better understanding of literature, as well as improving the reading habits of people because he would make a law that everyone reads on Wednesdays so we could be educated about literature. The other thing I would like to point out is that Mr Macknight is a very straightforward person and he will make sure everything is fair and he won’t let anyone get away with anything. Moreover I see Mr Macknight teaching us how to play the music that he likes to listen so that we can enjoy it and have better taste in music. Finally, I would like to state that Mr Macknight has a very nice vibe and if he were to run for president I would certainly vote for him if he stood for the job. I would like to nominate Mr. Macknight for president of Canada.

IRJE#6

The book I’m reading is called “All for you” by Louise Jensen. It is about the Walsh family. Lucy who is a wife and a mother. Aidan who is a husband and a dad, and Connor who is a son and a brother. Everyone in this family keeps secrets and they seem to never tell the truth.

I’m alone.

I’m alone.

I’m alone.

A wife without a husband. A mother without any children.

Help me.

I cannot cope with this. I just… can’t.

The flowers. The white car. Connor. Kieron. Aidan.

Hailey.

I’m so so sorry for the things I did, for the things I didn’t do.

I hate you, Connor had screamed.

I hate me too.

The smell from the flowers fills my nostrils, I crawl down the hallway from them.

A spinning top of thoughts, whirring faster and faster until I’m dizzy.

Missing.

Taken.

Funerals.

Death.

Missing.

Taken.

Funerals.

Death. (p.208)

I chose to quote this dialogue because this shows how Lucy is blaming herself and she is very upset. It shows the sadness. I also noticed how the author writes “I’m alone” three times and this symbolizes her husband and two children. The words “missing”, “taken”, “funerals” and “death” are some of the words that ruined Lucys life. I haven’t enjoyed this book has much because its really slow and vague but its intriguing.

PW#5 Vancouver trip

Some weeks ago I went with my friends to Vancouver. We had to wake up at 4 am and we almost missed the taxi that was going to take us to the ferry. When we arrived to the ferry we had to wait 1 hour for the ferry to arrive. We arrived to Vancouver we went to Starbucks to eat breakfast. We went to do some shopping, it was really fun I bought clothes, accessories among other things. We didn’t want to waste time so we just graved another Starbucks for lunch. We met with some friends in Vancouver and that was really fun. After it was time to go back to the ferry. I was really tired because it was so much walking but it was worth it. When we got back to Brookes we did a haul to the friends that didn’t go to the trip. The next day was my birthday so at 12 they sang happy birthday and it was really nice.

IRJE#5 Brave new world

Society is something that us in the real world have and so as in a place were they want to have everything under control. Brave new world by Aldous Huxley talks about the dystopia and how can we be a perfect society. Since they are made they al ready have a plan or a role to follow. The higher the role the more value has the person. Has it says on this paragraph.

Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they’re so frightfully clever. I’m really awfully glad I’m a Beta, because I don’t work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don’t want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse.” (chapter2)

This quote talks about that the alpha work a lot harder than the beta. This is a clear example on how they are divided into society’s. This shows that the Deltas and Epsilons are lower than the beta. He makes it sound like he is in the middle and he is proud of being a beta.

What I learned about outsmart…

What I’ve learned about Outsmart Your Brain: Why Learning is Hard and How You Can Make it Easy, by Danielle T. Willingham. Chapter 5. That it is really easy and effective to read text the correct way. I learned that I have been reading texts the wrong way because as I read I have to take notes to memorize and remember better. Another mistake that I have is that when I start reading without looking for subtitles, headings, quotes among others. To make the information easier I can search for definitions of words that I don’t know and highlight the most important paragraphs, but he says “how do you know that is the most important part” He explains how we can know and he gives us tips in how to improve. Thought the book I noticed various mistakes that I have to improve.

First, you need to read slowly to connect what you read a few minutes ago and what you are reading now. People usually summarize each chapter but he says we have to summarize each paragraph. This is for not leaving small details outside. I really enjoyed how easy it was to read this book and how it will help me improve future readings.

PW #4. Winter break back home

In the winter break I went back to my home place. I was very exited to go but also nervous because I had to take flight by my own. The luck was not in my favor the first two days. I los my flight from Victoria to Vancouver. So I had to buy another flight. When I got to Vancouver I had to change terminals because I had a connection flight. It was really stressful since I had only 30 minutes to change terminals and there was no taxis. I got into the fight and when I arrived to San Diego my bag didn’t arrive, but my parents surprised me by picking me up at the airport. It was really nice to see them since I had like 5 months that I didn’t saw them. When I got back home I hanged out with my friends and they stayed for a sleepover. The next day we went for tacos and ,y car got crashed and a bird popped my head. For obvious reasons I was really stressed but that night my friends through me a surprise Welcome party, so I got to see all my friends and it was really fun. Since it was holiday season I got to spent almost every day with my family and friends. I had a great time back home. I missed it so much. I almost dint want to come back to Canada.

“lWhere the rainbow ends ” IRJE 5

During the summer I read where the rainbow ends  by Cecilia Ahern. This book his about two best friends Rosie and Alex that know everything about each other. They are dreams, plans among other things. They have known each other since they were kids and were really close friends until Rosie’s 18 birthday Alex tried expressing his feelings and Rosie Tod him to forget about it so Alex by obvious reasons was really upset. There was a dance coming in their Schoo, and they promised each other to go together but at the end they didn’t. Alex took Bethany and Greg took Rosie. Few weeks passed and Rosie got pregnant but didn’t want to tell Alex because it would ruin his plans to go to Boston University so she keeps the secret and they distanced from each other. Greg abandoned Rosie when he found out that’s why she was a single mom, but she know how to face the circumstances. Years passed and Alex found out so he returned to the UK to see Rosie. She thought maybe he could be a good father for his daughter but he was al ready engaged so Alex got married few years passed and Rossie’s dream was to open a Hotel so when she did Alex was there and they expressed their feelings after all that time and they were together at the end.

“Today I love you more than ever ; tomorrow I will love you eve more. […]I have always loved you, even when I was seven years old and lied about falling asleep on Santa watch, when I was ten years old and didn’t invite you to my birthday party; when I was eighteen and had to move away, even on my wedding days, on your wedding day, on christenings, birthdays and when we fought. I loved you through it all.”

This quote caught my eye because He had loved her since forever and she had too. I think it’s best to always express your feelings and never keep tit to yourself because you don’t know when is going to be the last time that you see them or that they are going to feel the same way. They were lucky but at the end it’s just a novel in real life soulmates separate and never get back together. I really enjoyed this book. I think it was a great novel.

Unit Final Reflection

What I learned about the observations about this unit is that I need to work on analyzing my reading to include more quotations and concentrate more on the text, re-read the text to include more questions to support my answers. I have to include more similarities and differences. I have to analyze the context, language, style among others so my finall outcome could be better.

personal utopia

For me a utopia is a place where everything is perfect. You have no worries, no preoccupations. In my opinion I wouldn’t like to live in a utopia because I wouldn’t appreciate things. But My ideal society is no hunger. I thinks hunger is one of the main factors that people suffer around the world. I would also love that there was no illness. People being emphatic, I think it would be great because if you put yourself in the shoes of others you can understand the worries of others.

Money. Money is one of the biggest things why people think they are superior of others so I think it would be perfect that everybody has the same social status. But again I would love to live in a place like this but with no worries but then I wouldn’t learn anything about life. I wouldn’t appreciate the good things that happens to me. I would be grateful.

IRJE#4

For the past few weeks I have been reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. It’s about a love story between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy. The book is about how they both overcome their biases to be together. As you’re reading the novel Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy learn to leave their pride and their prejudice. I also think it is a feminist novel because Elizabeth Bennet thinks that it’s wrong that men are considered superior than woman.  Love and class really stand out in this novel.

I am the happiest creature in the world. Perhaps other people have said so before, but not one with such justice. I am happier even than Jane; she only smiles, I laugh.”

Pride and Prejudice, Page 361, Volume three

This words start out to me because after what they’ve Benn through they finally announce their engagement so Mr Darcy written a letter to their gardeners showing his joy. Personally I think this quote is full of happiness, since they’ve learned to leave the pride and they’re prejudice to be together. This book is well known for being one of the most revolutionary love novels and I agree with that. Although it was at some point hard to reed I enjoyed it.

last summer. #3

Last summer I went on a cruise with my family and we invited my best friend and my cousin. The cruise shipped from New york so we had to take two flights to get there and we stayed 3 nights in New York city. We ate at very pretty restaurants and we visited the city although we have been to New York several times. I find it fascinating. After the three days passed we got on the cruise. It was so fun, we danced, made new friends and we ate a lot . I love going on cruises because it’s like a floating hotel. I personally think it is the best way to travel. The bad thing is you don’t have wifi but that’s also a good thing because you get to really enjoy the experience. The cruise was 1 day at sea and our first destination was Bermudas. Bermudas was really pretty, the waters were beautiful and the food was great. My brothers went swimming but i went shopping and exploring with my cousin and my best friend. They gave us half a day to get to know Bermudas but since it is a small place we got back into the cruise. The cruise was 2 days at sea. In those days they had parties and an all white dinner. The next stop was Saint Marteen, it was also beautiful. We went to a beach where planes arrived very close to you. We bought stuff, took pictures and headed back to the cruise. The following day we arrived  in San Juan Puerto Rico. This was personally one of my favorites because I have been to Puerto Rico four times and every time I go I like it more. Puerto Rico is awesome, the vibe was amazing and the people were great. We sang bad bunny, took pictures and got to know the city’s history. When we headed back that night we had the captain’s dinner and that was really fun. The next day we arrived at Haiti which was amazing. We had a lot of fun because we all got into the sea.  I was so sad because the cruise ship almost ended and when you leave a cruise is like leaving a life because of your friends. I loved that we had the opportunity to invite my best friend and my cousin because I think it’s an amazing experience and plus I had a lot of fun with them. We arrived in NYC and we stayed 2 days. The boys went to a baseball game, meanwhile we went shopping and we got to see the city from a helicopter which was amazing. It was a really fun summer

I have continued reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. These words said by Darcy really captured my attention. “A lady’s imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment.” chapter 6, pg5. The context of these words are that earlier in the novel Darcy was obligated to accept he had feelings for Elizabeth Bennett. Meanwhile Caroline Bingley flirted with him. Caroline asked what was he thinking about and he responded. How pretty Elizabeth’s eyes were but made it sound has a joke. So Darcy keeps up the joke because he knew she was going to ask that because women are always thinking about marriage. He complained that he couldn’t made a compliment without all the girls thinking he wants to get married.

I like this quote because eventhough it is a tongue-in-cheek quote. It’s is true  in Jane Austins novel women tempt to make marriage a central priority or obsession. So many Women like Caroline Bingley are alert for competition. It is meaningful because it shows how all the ladies in Pride and Prejudice with just one compliment that made ideas that goes from admiration to love and then to marriage.

Pride and Prejudice IRJ

I have been reading Pride and prejudice and I find it very interesting because Jane Austin uses a lot of irony in general. This words said by Elizabeth Bennet really captured my eye..  “I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine.” chapter 5, pg 21. This context of this words are that Elizabeth Bennet was talking with her friend Charlotte Lucas about the night ball. They were recently introduced to Mr Darcy who was a rich and handsome man. He captured the eye of all the girls in the room including Lizz. Charlotte did not wanted to be so hard at him as others because Mr Darcy is a very important man and from the high society and she thought they’re would’ve been a reason to be so pride himself. Elizabeth agreed a little with Charlotte but Mr Darcy refused to dance with her and her pride had been hurt.

I like this quote because it shows how none of them are able to leave pride beside but at a point I understand Elizabeth Bennet because she respected her pride but she did not respect hers.So why would she leave her pride aside when he can’t do the same  When two over prideful people collide there is allot of tension so it can be difficult but has you read the book you notice allot of things change.

A party I will never forget

It is very traditional in Mexico to have a party for your xvs (quinceañera), so I did. I woke up that day feeling really nervous because it was a very expected party by almost all of my friends, so normally I start overthinking. What if it isn’t a good party and I disappoint everyone? But my dad calmed me down. Early in the morning, I got my make-up and my hair done, and I put my dress on, and we started taking pictures. The pictures took like 3 hours because all my family wanted to get pictures. After that, I went to church, and the priest gave a really nice ceremony. After the ceremony ended, all my best friends were waiting for me outside with lighted candles. We went to the party. I was so excited because it was something I had been thinking about since I was a little kid. The decorations turned out beautifully. Later, all of my family and friends arrived, but they couldn’t see me because I was in a room, but I got out when I danced a vals with my dad. This was a very special moment for us. We cried, we danced, we laughed, and it was beautiful. Following that, I danced with my best friend to a surprise dance, and after everything ended, the party began. So there were a lot of people, about 1,000 people were registered entering the event, but the DJ was fantastic, so everyone was able to dance. I did not leave the dance floor until the whole party ended. I did not even have dinner, but it was worth it. Not only that, but I had so much fun; it was the party of the year. Furthermore, I received lots of compliments about how great the party was. It will undoubtedly be something I never forget. Finally, the party ended at 7 a.m. I was very tired, but the next day was my actual birthday, so I had another party with all my family too. It ended at 9 a.m. I was exhausted, but I had a really nice time. It is certainly something I will never forget.

Comparing “They Shall Not Grow Old”, “All Quiet on the Western Front” and “Soldier’s Home.”

This post is going to be about the comparaison between “They Shall Not Grow Old”, “All Quiet on the Western Front” and “Soldier’s Home.” The tree of them fought t in WW1 but each one has they’re different stories, even tough they are different stories they have similar experiences. In each of the stories they talk about how hard was it during those times, all the social pressure and how they felt morally obligated to go . “All quiet on the western front” and “soldier’s home” have in common that both of them feel like they don’t belong and feeling different after the war. “All quiet in the western front” focuses on the story of one soldier, while de movie focuses on various storys of fallen soldiers, also the movie focuses more on what soldiers did on their free time, the songs that they sang etc . Overall the three stories where very good and I enjoyed viewing different perspectives of the war

IRJE Pride and Prejudice

The book that I am reading is called Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I find it very interesting, it is a very revolutionary feminist novel, its about a very complicated relationship between Elizabeth Bennet who is the daughter of a county gentlemen and Darcy who’s a rich man. It shows the adventures and the adventures of their love. This novel starts with the quote” it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. ” p1 . For me this sentence opens up and shows us what the whole novel will be about . We can say it”s going to be about marriage and at is says “universally acknowledged” we can determine is going to be about gossip or misunderstandings . This line is all about Ironi , Why? you might ask , well nowadays is not usually for a men to seek for marriage, it also says “must be” as if getting married had to be the only option . It”s true that some women want to find a husband for a good lifestyle but Austen turned around as since a rich man HAS to have a wife. I think it”s funny in some way because it shows how moms and daughters are in a competition for this young man .

differences between Baummer and Krebs

The similarities between Baummer and Krebs were that they were both young and went to the war, also their responses from getting back home . Krebs does not want to live with all does consequences, practically he did not see value in things in life . Paul also lost meaning in life . And the differences were that Paul died in war and s kern lived . Eventhoug Krebs fought the war , after it he meat his family and the wanted him to put him to work even though he direct know nothing about life . rebs was a methodist “Krebs went to the war from a Methodist collage in Kansas ” p1 while Paul did not. I can’t choose between which life I prefer I just see that their is a lot of trauma and they suffered lots of things and face lots of challenges. K

my response to ” All quiet on the western front “

I found the book all quiet on the western front very interesting since it teaches us a different perspective of WW1. This novel begins with “This book is to be neither an accusation nor a confession, and least of all an adventure, for death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it. It will try simply to tell of a generation of men who, even though they may have escaped shells, were destroyed by the war.”The use of direct address in this quote signifies the impact he is putting on the reader to empathize with the young men that fought in the war. It shows us how young 18 year old boys fight war , they’re traumas, their sentiments and the loss . Identity is something we all have, each person is different, we have our own world but these men fear not to ever be the same again . as Paul said “We were eighteen and had begun to love life and the world; and we had to shoot it to pieces. The first bomb, the first explosion, burst in our hearts. We are cut off from activity, from striving, from progress. We believe in such things no longer, we believe in the war.” Chapter 5, pg. 88 , this quote demonstrates that the war completely changes and affect their lives .

In my opinion it is a very good book. It taught me that I am very lucky to have the life that I have and not have to go through all the horrific things that people went through in those years. In my twenties I would like to have a spectacular life yet they do nothing about life, like Paul said “I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, death, fear, and fatuous superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. I see how peoples are set against one another, and in silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another.” Chapter 10, pg. 263″. This quote makes me sad and makes me think that they were so young to live all those things, to suffer all those traumas. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. It was very interesting. It made me see things from another perspective, and it motivates me to try and be better as a person and being peaceful.
